Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. (AHP), is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Copyeditor to join our writing team to provide copyediting and project support across an array of initiatives. The Copyeditor acts as an expert resource on copyediting and editing issues and contributes to projects related to the writing and editing team, and copyedits proposals. This position can be located remotely from anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
Copyediting and Proofreading
- Copyedit and proofread proposals (federal, state, commercial), resumes, reports, manuals, training courseware, newsletters, articles, and other deliverables and marketing materials for audiences in the behavioral health and health fields.
- Ensure correct grammar, syntax, spelling, word usage, agreement in tense and number; ensure appropriate citations are provided; check the format of all citations and references; work in MS Word’s track changes feature so that edits can be reviewed and approved.
- Ensure compliance with style guides, design requirements, and other client-/department-prescribed guidance, including GPO (Government Printing Office), HHS (Department of Health and Human Services), APA, and other federal styles.
- Read materials to ensure text is well-organized, logically presented, coherent, and complete; reorganize text as required to improve flow and readability; check text/headings/formatting/length/content against RFP/RFA requirements.
- Conduct light fact-checking; be fully accountable for editorial quality and accuracy of all reviewed material.
- Communicate with writers and project staff to resolve copyediting issues in documents you edit.
Projects
- Assist in updates of staff resumes.
- Handle quick-turnaround projects and special requests.
- General proposal/Enterprise Project Management Office department support as needed; collaborate with writing group staff on a variety of projects.
Qualifications, Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or related field and 3+ years of experience.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
- Advanced copyediting and writing skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to perform duties that require close attention to detail.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor, technical staff, partners, and clients, both in-person and virtually.
- Ability to operate in a team environment and be flexible in taking on and performing assignments as necessary.
- Ability to think proactively and problem-solve issues that arise.
- Advanced MS Office and citation management software skills.
- Proficiency with APA and other styles.
- Proficiency with SharePoint and Teams and/or willingness to learn.
- Working knowledge of or willingness to learn Deltek or other CRM software.

Location
All work must be performed within the United States or its territories. Employees are required to reside in, and carry out their job responsibilities from, a location within the U.S. or a U.S. territory for the duration of their employment. Limited exceptions may be granted for short-term personal or business travel outside of these areas, subject to prior written approval and in compliance with company policy.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $69,000
AHP, in an effort to be transparent with applicants about salary and in compliance with various state pay disclosure requirements, publishes the following information which is current as of the date of posting. The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the AHP salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be high or low in the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and education. The range listed is just one component of AHP’s total compensation package for employees.
