Job description

The Coordinator, Student Loan Programs processes Federal Direct Student Loans and Private Educational loan, coordinates debt management processes and monitors activity. The Coordinator oversees the Loan Entrance and Exit process. The Coordinator oversees the coordination process for returning aid funds for all escheated (stale-dated) student refund checks. The Coordinator counsels and advise students and parents concerning their financial aid eligibility. Responsibilities include the supervision of part-time administrative staff and student workers.

  • Process and certify applications for Federal Direct Student Loans and private educational loans.
  • Award Federal Direct Student Loans and private educational loans to student accounts after eligibility requirements have been met; review information and analyze problems and errors in student financial aid reports.
  • Oversees the processing of the student entrance and exit programs and is responsible for the timely student communication status outreach to ensure Deparment of Education compliance.
  • Counsel students and parents regarding dependency requirements, loan availability, lender attributes, assist with the FAFSA, review documents, and consult with counselors, case workers and other legal professionals, as required.
  • Meet with lenders for updates on loan products and services; attend seminars and webinars to gain knowledge on regulatory updates.
  • Organize debt management workshops for students and conduct topical review sessions for administrators and other staff on various loan procedures.
  • Perform account analysis to correct missing information, to change and update student accounts.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Financial Aid Programs and Controller's Office, review monthly escheated (stale-dated) refund check roster to return funds to the original loan provider.
  • Supervise and part-time staff and student workers.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Financial Aid Programs, review and update parameters for processing files to accommodate system upgrades and changes in the semester and to make permanent improvements, as needed.
  • , Make necessary adjustments to the parameters in the loan process when academic years or semesters change.
  • Prepare required reports.
  • Answer inquiries from students, lending institutions, and loan servicing agencies.
  • Assist with review of applications for College-based aid.
  • Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional helpful and courteous manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Any and all degree(s) must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Three (3) years experience in financial aid programs including federal loans and alternative loans in a higher education environment required.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of financial aid federal and state regulations required.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet required.
  • Experience working with enterprise-wide systems required.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills in all media (phone, face-to-face, and email) required.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous priorities and meet deadlines required.
  • Commitment to the mission of an urban community college required.
