Job description

About The Lincoln Institute Of Land Policy

The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy seeks to improve quality of life through the effective use, taxation, and stewardship of land. A nonprofit, private operating foundation whose origins date to 1946, the Lincoln Institute researches and recommends creative, nonpartisan approaches to land as a solution to economic, social, and environmental challenges. Through education, training, publications, and events, we integrate theory and practice to inform public policy decisions worldwide. We organize our work around three impact areas: land and water; land and fiscal systems; and land and communities. We envision a world where cities and regions prosper and benefit from coordinated land use planning and public finance; where communities thrive from efficient and equitable allocation of limited land resources; and where stewardship of land and water resources ensures a livable future. We work globally, with locations in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Washington, DC; Phoenix, Arizona; and Beijing, China.

Remaking Local Economies (RLE) Team Overview

The Remaking Local Economies (RLE) team at the Lincoln Institute seeks to use land policy to improve well‑being for communities, with an emphasis on improving outcomes and quality of life for vulnerable people and places. RLE focuses particularly on communities in “legacy cities,” which we define as places that have experienced population and economic decline. RLE’s projects and programs explore and develop ways land policy can be structured to contribute to community well‑being by improving access to opportunities in areas, such as housing, employment, greening, and economic growth. We advance this work through research and community partnerships that bridge policy and practice and develop “place‑based solutions” to boost community and economic revitalization and solve “well‑being challenges.” The RLE team works closely with partners and stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds and prioritizes a comparable level of team diversity. We believe that our team and our work are strongest when they reflect a range of perspectives.

Position Overview

The Program Coordinator handles the RLE team’s “place‑based work” by managing logistical and administrative work to advance on‑the‑ground efforts and the results of our partners, networks, research engagements, and community partner pilot programs. You will also undertake light research and draft summary documents related to our work and contribute to event and meeting‑planning content. This full‑time (37.5 hrs./wk.) hybrid position will report to the Director of Remaking Local Economies and be based in either our Cambridge, MA, Washington, DC, or Phoenix, AZ office. This position is expected to have limited travel (approximately 10%).

What You Will Do
  • Serve as project manager to track and monitor program activities across RLE team projects and initiatives.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with local partners, including addressing inquiries, scheduling meetings, tracking follow‑up and next steps from meetings, and other similar activities.
  • Develop initial research summaries and contribute insights to strategic discussions, including research advancing placed‑based efforts on topics related to the team’s priorities of equitable housing, inclusive economic growth and community development and resilience related to disinvested and vulnerable communities.
  • Prepare reports and updates for internal stakeholders, including drafting educational materials, meeting agendas, summaries, and presentations.
  • Plan and ensure consistent RLE team execution of communications, including website content updates, any quarterly newsletters, regular blogs or other writings. This work could include drafting content or coordinating with authors, and working with others to get the newsletter or other publications formatted and edited.
  • Aid marketing requests for project content.
  • Monitor spending and execute and monitor procurements.
  • Liaise with the Events team to execute virtual and in‑person events.
  • Handle external inquiries regarding our research, data, and programs.
  • Maintain records of RLE network members and organize ongoing network engagement.
