Job summary

Flagler College's Institute for Classical Education in Saint Augustine seeks a Coordinator of Professional Development to plan, organize, and implement statewide PD programs for K-12 classical educators.

Working with the Institute’s Director, you will build relationships with Flagler College, placement counselors, and administrators at K-12 classical schools connected to the Institute, including campus and school visits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
  • 3 years of K-12 classical education teaching or administrative experience.
  • Experience in program development or leadership in a K-12 classical school or higher education experience with classical pedagogy.
  • Strong understanding of theory and practice of classical education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and expand PD programming for K-12 classical education teachers in Florida.
  • Manage the roster of Institute fellows, instructors, and experts who develop and offer PD.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with classical education schools across Florida.
  • Travel routinely for outreach, partnership building, and leading PD sessions—primarily in Florida.
  • Assist the Director in organizing on-campus events, including educator workshops and symposia.
  • Work closely with partner schools’ administration, staff, and practitioners to meet evolving needs.

Job Description

The Institute for Classical Education at Flagler College supports classical schools throughout Florida through professional development programming that advances classical and liberal arts education. Working closely with the Institute’s Director, the Coordinator of Professional Development will plan, organize, and implement professional development programs for K-12 classical educators across the state; the Coordinator will also develop relationships between Flagler College and college placement counselors and administration at K-12 classical schools connected with Flagler’s Institute, including visits to K-12 schools and coordinating visits to Flagler’s campus. Leveraging the resources of Flagler College, the Institute fosters active partnerships with classical schools throughout Florida – as principals and heads of school advise on program topics for professional development. Through a variety of events and offerings, the Institute supports educators engaged in classical and liberal arts education through professional development for teachers; leadership training for school administrators; on-site support at schools; student enrichment opportunities on campus; and statewide collaboration among classical education leaders. Regular travel throughout the State of Florida is expected; flexible hours for on-campus presence when not traveling.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Under the direction of the Director of the Classical Institute, develop, implement, and work to expand programming for K-12 classical education teachers in support of their professional development needs.
  • Manage the roster of Classical Institute fellows, instructors, and experts that develop and offer professional development training for the Institute.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with classical education schools (public and private) throughout the state of Florida.
  • Routinely travel for the purposes of outreach, partnership building, and leading professional development sessions – primarily in Florida. Occasional travel to affiliated conferences or other workshops may also be required.
  • Assist the Director in organizing on-campus events, including educator workshops and symposia.
  • Work closely with partner schools’ administration, staff, and practitioners to build programming to meet their evolving needs.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred; PhDs or PhD candidates coming from academia and looking to enter K-12 Classical Education with appropriate degree work will also be considered.
  • K-12 classical education teaching or administrative experience (at least 3 years); or appropriate expertise in classical education
  • Experience in program development and/or leadership role in a K-12 classical school; or appropriate higher education-level experience with classical learning and pedagogy
  • A robust understanding of theory and practice of classical education
CHARACTERISTICS PREFERRED:
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exhibit good judgment in making decisions concurrent with Flagler College policies.
  • Excellent organizational and public presentation/speaking skills.
