About the Role: Job Summary

The Emergency Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator, in collaboration with Emergency Leadership, is responsible for NGMC's Emergency Services Quality Improvement Program. The Emergency Department Performance Improvement Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing programs to improve the quality of care provided patients in the emergency department. The ED Performance Improvement Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating activities that promote quality outcomes and patient throughput while supporting a balance of optimal care and appropriate resource utilization. This is a goal driven role which will aid in the change process and education needed based on the current quality performance data. The ED Performance Improvement Coordinator is under the direct supervision of the Executive Director Trauma and Emergency Services.

Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or other certifications: Current RN licensure in the State of Georgia. National certification in a clinical or leadership specialty required within two years of hire. Membership of professional organization within three months of hire.

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree

  • Minimum Experience: Minimum five (5) experience in emergency/trauma nursing; including performance improvement and database management responsibilities.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

Performance Improvement and Patient Safety

  • Oversees the daily operations of the Emergency Services Quality Improvement Program.

  • Performs concurrent and retrospective case reviews to identify provider and/or system-related improvement opportunities.

  • Manages the data collection, monitoring and reporting of identified PI issues, ensuring action plans are implemented and loop closure completed.

  • Maintains all Emergency performance improvement program files and paperwork, including agendas, minutes and databases.

  • Creates reports, tables, charts and graphs that accurately reflect the Emergency Program's Performance Improvement activities and data.

  • Presents Emergency performance improvement data to various hospital committees or outside agencies at the request of Emergency Leadership.

  • Creates and maintains the Emergency Performance dashboard/data showing all required key performance indicators.

  • Collaborates with the Emergency Department Medical Directors to assure the Emergency Performancy Improvement program is driven by Emergency data.

  • Develops, implements and maintains a process for reviewing and analyzing emergency reports, shares findings with emergency leadership on a regular basis.

  • Assists Emergency Leadership in the creation of practice management guidelines when indicated by emergency data and/or emergency case review.

  • Collaborates with Variance and Events Committee (VEC), Practice Review Committee (PRC) and other committees when indicated.

Education and Training

  • Assists in the orientation of new emergency staff and providers in areas pertaining to the emergency performance improvement program.

  • Participates in regional, state and national conferences at the request of emergency leadership.

  • Obtains annual continued education as required by NGMC.

  • Actively participates in emergency and PI-related professional organizations.

Compliance

  • Maintains awareness of all current state and national regulatory requirements related to emergency performance improvement. Assures this information is shared with emergency leadership on a routine basis.

  • Ensures the Emergency Program is compliant with the Emergency Nurses Association and American College of Surgeon's standards regarding integration of the emergency PIPS program with the hospital's overall PI program.

  • Performs al other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
