Job summary

Illinois State University seeks a Coordinator of World Languages Teacher Education to provide leadership for the department’s World Languages Teacher Education program.   • MA or Ph.D. in World Languages Education or other terminal degree in related field.
  • Evidence of effective teaching in a public school setting for a minimum of three years.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French, German, or Spanish.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of educational initiatives including teacher evaluation and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Ability to identify, manage, and analyze programmatic data for reporting and presentation.
  • Ability to work with latitude and independence of action.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to implement program policies consistently and equitably.
  • Ability to create informational reports about student and instructor activities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within Illinois.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Coordinator of World Languages Teacher Education, under the direction of the Chair, in consultation with Department Advisory Committee, and in coordination with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, the Undergraduate Studies Committee, and the appropriate entities in the College of Education, provides intellectual, pedagogical, and administrative leadership for the Department's World Languages Teacher Education program. The Coordinator provides mentoring, programming, and professional development for Teacher Education majors leading up to and through their Student Teaching experience.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$53,0000 - $60,000 annually/9 mo, pro-rated for case load

Required Qualifications

1. MA or Ph.D. or other terminal degree (e.g., Ed.D.) in World Languages Education or a closely related field.
2. Evidence of effective teaching in a public school setting for a minimum of three years.
3. Native or near-native proficiency in French, German, or Spanish
4. Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills.
5. Knowledge of educational initiatives including teacher evaluation and culturally responsive teaching.
6. Ability to identify, manage, and analyze programmatic data for the purposes of written reporting and presentation.
7. Ability to work with considerable latitude and independence of action.

11. Valid driver's license
12. Ability to travel within the state of Illinois.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Native or near-native proficiency in French, German, or Spanish and knowledge of an additional language (French, German, and/or Spanish) preferred.
2. Knowledge of current best practices teaching heritage language learners.
3. Experience in leadership roles, preferably in the field of education.

Work Hours

Core work hours require availability during the school day for student teacher observations and other critical meetings. Occasional evening or weekend hours as business need dictates.

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

2. Move about in various locations on and off campus as needed to complete day-to-day work
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis
