Overview

Supervises multiple Outpatient Substance use programs in Mobile and Baldwin County and Substance Abuse programs that are designed for consumers who are dependent on drugs or alcohol. The treatment goal is to stabilize the consumer by administering methadone, which prevents withdrawal symptoms and craving, and blocks the undesirable effect of illicit use of self-administered opioids. They also assure that counseling is congruent with plans of treatment and regulations. Services include but are not limited to supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, systemic therapy, behavior modification, skills training, and relapse prevention.

Responsibilities

Supervises Substance Use Disorder Operations:

• Assesses functioning of programs, identifying problems and solutions
• Writes program narratives, contracts, procedures and grants in a timely manner, as applicable
• Assures that contractual agreements and program standards and objectives are met
• Leads the division program planning, development and implementation
• Monitors division contracts and budget
• Monitors case loads and productivity of staff
• Ensures that staff provide quality and timely services
• Effectively collaborates with the treatment team members and outside sources in the delivery of SUD services
• Adheres to professional code of ethics
• Effectively demonstrates the application of SUD specific competencies
• Effectively demonstrates the application of adult specific competencies
• Conducts regular staff meeting and supervisions with staff
• Maintains alliances with DHR and other agencies that we collaborate with
• Monitors travel reimbursement
• Provides staff training on proper documentation, adherence to JCAHO and DMH standards as well as AHS Policy and Procedures
• Attends in-service trainings and other workshops
• Provides training and education of evidenced based practices, assessment, diagnosis of population served as needed
• Effectively collaborates with the probation officers, judges, as necessary
• Provides education to the SUD patients
• Effectively collaborates with therapist, nursing and physician staff to ensure that patients adhere to all aspects of treatment.

Administers appropriate personnel functions:

• Interviews and screens applicants when necessary and completes appropriate forms as outlined by Personnel Policy and Procedures
• Provides training in the general orientation of the facility, policies and procedures, program operations and specific skill areas
• Is knowledgeable and applies personnel policies and procedures on a consistent basis
• Objectively completes employee performance evaluations on supervised staff and routes to Human Resource Department on a timely basis
• Promotes concept of treatment teams. Acts as a member of the treatment team
• Provides positive and effective leadership
• Provides staff with consultation and supervision as needed, individually or through group staff meetings
• Ensures competence of staff.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in a mental health discipline, with at least two years postmaster’s experience. Licensure preferred.

Knowledge in Substance Use Disorders (SUD) specialty, outlined below, to be attained within (6) six months of employment:

• Knowledge of the nature of SUD as a primary illness. Knowledge of gender specific issues relative to addiction
• Knowledge of SUD assessment and placement.
• Understands the dynamics of co-dependency and other typical behaviors of patients, such as denial and manipulation strategies. Is able to teach and apply consistent patient boundaries
• Understands the behavioral, psychological, physical health and social effects of psychoactive drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, on the consumer and significant others
• Knowledge of recovery oriented helping strategies for reducing the negative effects of SUD and how to tailor strategies and treatment modalities to the consumer’s stage of change
• Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical resources in the treatment of SUD and other related disorders
• Knowledge of cultural diversity
• Basic knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the adult population for referral purposes or dual diagnosis treatment
• Knowledge of the increased risk for illnesses among IV drug users such as HIV/AIDS and T.B.
• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and T.B. education materials
• Knowledge of outside services available to consumers to include, but not limited to appropriate self-help groups
