Description of Position:
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Special Education or designee, assist in the coordination of special education services pre-k through 8th grade; support the strategic implementation of assessment and services; provide school site and Districtwide support on referrals, eligibility determination, services provision and placement (location of services); facilitate and act as District administrator designee at IEP meetings; and support inclusive practices for students with identified disabilities. This position may also include case management of students.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the case management of students who are referred for assessment, including collaborating with outside referring agencies and parents as appropriate. May conduct district level individual assessments when appropriate.
Provide support to general education staff, special education staff and to site administrators on assessment and eligibility determination; and on best practice services provision for students with disabilities across educational settings (general education and special education)
Serve as a resource to special education staff - certified and classified -in case management, program development, instructional strategies and innovations in service delivery. Provide related staff development as appropriate.
Provide ongoing support to special education site teams including facilitating regular staff meetings; helping with scheduling and logistics related to the provision of services; sharing updates on district procedures and processes
Monitor and support compliance with state and federal laws and regulations concerning the education and rights for students with disabilities and their families.
Serve as IEP administrator designees; prepare teams for complicated IEP meetings, facilitate IEP meetings
Serve as liaison to the County office of education, Golden Gate Regional Center, County programs, nonpublic schools, other school districts, and outside agency service providers as appropriate
Plan and coordinate observations/ visits to special education programs
Perform related duties as required
Qualifications
Special Education Teaching Credential or PPS Credential in Social Work and a minimum three years special education teaching experience.
CLAD or BCLAD or equivalent
Qualification Preferred:
Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team, facilitating meetings, coaching/mentoring individuals and teams/groups, providing professional development to staff, collaborating with parents.
Experience in analyzing and using data to inform decisions related to planning and implementing special education services for individual and groups of students.
Knowledge of special education law and related timelines; on best practices for writing Individualized Education Plan and on progress reporting; on a broad range of disabilities and on how to work with students with different abilities.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Personal Qualities:
Ability to provide leadership and guidance to special education teachers and related staff, self-initiate tasks and thinking ahead, communicates effectively orally and in writing, ability to work with new and experienced staff.
Physical Abilities:
Sufficient vision to read material with or without vision aides;
Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person conversations with students, teachers and parents;
Sufficient voice volume to be heard at normal conversational distances;
Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time;
Physical, mental and emotional stamina to endure stressful conditions;
Use hands to touch, handle, reach, feel objects, controls, or tools;
Ability to demonstrate gross and fine motor skills and movements to students
Occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds;
