Primary Purpose:

Support the Director of Health Services in coordinating district health services operations, compliance, resources, and communication. Provide professional nursing expertise and direct nursing services, including temporary campus nurse coverage as needed, to support continuity of student health services. Coordinate records, reporting, purchasing, inventory, and program logistics that support safe, compliant, and effective health services across the district.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university (preferred)
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Current CPR/AED certification

Experience

  • Five (5) years of registered nursing experience, including at least three (3) years of school nursing experience
  • Experience supporting health services operations, records, purchasing, inventory, or related administrative functions (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of professional nursing practices, medication administration, emergency response, and student health procedures
  • Working knowledge of school health requirements and applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and confidentiality requirements
  • Working knowledge of records management, purchasing, inventory, and basic accounting practices
  • Proficient organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Ability to provide direct nursing care, assess student health needs, and respond appropriately to health emergencies
  • Ability to interpret and apply health services policies, procedures, and data
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize workflow, maintain accuracy, and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to develop and deliver training and professional learning for adult staff
  • Ability to handle confidential student and health information with discretion and sound judgment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with campus nurses, district staff, families, and community health providers

Key Responsibilities:

Health Services Coordination and Nursing Support

  • Support the Director of Health Services in coordinating daily department operations, programs, and services
  • Provide temporary campus nurse coverage as assigned to ensure continuity of health services during staff absences, vacancies, or other coverage needs
  • Facilitate substitute nurse coverage by maintaining current availability information and coordinating campus assignments as needed
  • Provide support and guidance to campus nurses regarding established health services processes, procedures, documentation, and resource needs; refer complex clinical or compliance matters to the Director of Health Services
  • Assist with planning and logistics for staff development, School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) meetings, CPR certification, and other health-related training and events
  • Serve as Chair of the School Nurse Peer Review Committee, coordinating peer review activities, facilitating committee meetings, and support fair and consistent evaluation of nursing practice and professional performance
  • Coordinate and support SNAP software configuration and implementation across all district sites to ensure accurate, consistent, and efficient implementation
  • Provide state-mandated hearing, vision, and spinal screening certification training to school nurses to support compliance with screening requirements and standards
  • Provide student-specific training and support for bus drivers and Extended School Day (ESD) staff to ensure safe and appropriate care for students with individual health needs
  • Provide individualized, on-site training and coaching throughout the school year to support campus nurses in clinical practice and professional development
  • When providing nursing coverage, assess student health needs; provide first aid, emergency care, and medication administration; implement student health plans; communicate with families and campus staff; and maintain required documentation in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures

Records, Compliance, and Reporting

  • Maintain required records and documentation related to staff training, certifications, student health services, emergency protocols, and department operations
  • Maintain current records for automated external defibrillators (AEDs), CPR certification, emergency medications, and other required health services programs
  • Track and maintain documentation related to student health plans, private duty nursing, and health services procedures and protocols
  • Compile and prepare reports, records, and documentation required for district and state reportingPrepare and maintain health services handbooks, procedural guides, forms, and other department resources
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, employee, and health information in accordance with applicable requirements

Budget, Purchasing, and Inventory

  • Support department budget administration by tracking expenditures, processing purchase orders, reconciling records, and maintaining required documentation
  • Coordinate inventory of medical supplies, equipment, emergency health materials, and other Health Services resources
  • Coordinate ordering, distribution, delivery, and retrieval of health services supplies and equipment across district locations
  • Maintain inventory and equipment records and assist with identifying replacement, repair, and purchasing needs
  • Prepare deposits and maintain financial records related to CPR certification and other department activities as assigned

Communication and Program Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Health Services and respond to inquiries or route requests to appropriate staff with professionalism and discretion
  • Coordinate communication among the Director of Health Services, campus nurses, district staff, families, and external partners
  • Maintain department calendars and coordinate meetings, professional learning, health services activities, and other scheduled events
  • Draft, edit, and distribute professional correspondence, reports, meeting agendas, training materials, and other department communication
  • Coordinate leave documentation, time records, and related submissions for Health Services staff in accordance with district procedures and established deadlines

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Participate in professional development, faculty/department meetings, and special events as assigned
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the department and district

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the work and issue work assignments to campus nurses
  • Chair the Peer Review Committee, coordinating peer review activities, facilitating committee meetings, and ensuring fair, consistent evaluation of nursing practice and professional performance

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 25 pounds); Ability to perform the physical functions required to provide direct student nursing care and emergency assistance

Environment: Work is performed in office, clinic, and campus settings; frequent districtwide travel; exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and other conditions associated with providing student health services; may require prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; respond effectively to health emergencies
