REPORTS TO: Vice President, Communications

STATUS: Full-Time; Non-Exempt

Your role as a Coordinator, Media Relations:

You will be primarily responsible for overseeing daily press box activities, as well as writing press releases and game notes.

All the responsibilities we will trust you with:

  1. Creates baseball information content to engage the media and fans in support of the communications department and organizational strategies and goals.
  2. Contribute to the production of the annual media guide with proficiency in Adobe InDesign.
  3. Performs statistical analysis and research.
  4. Produces and disseminates daily game notes, press releases, stat packs and line-up sheets.
  5. Opportunity to travel on team road trips as media relations representative.
  6. Oversees daily press box activities and assists in the coordination of all press conferences.
  7. Coordinates production needs with visiting team representatives and broadcasters.
  8. Supports department as it relates to daily credentialing of media and media parking.
  9. Assists in coordinating interviews for local, regional and national media with players and baseball staff.
  10. Works in Peoria, AZ, for approximately six (6) weeks during Spring Training; assists on all Spring Training media operations.
  11. Researches, develops and recommends new ideas to take advantage of growth opportunities in traditional and emerging communications areas.
  12. Supports entertainment, marketing and content departments by proactively contributing ideas, notes, statistics, etc., for use in social media and other areas.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most:

  1. Proficient computer skills including experience with Adobe In-Design a must; MS Office products such as Word, Excel, InDesign, Outlook, etc., with general knowledge of basic office equipment including copier, laser printer, telephone, and computer.
  2. Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with proven ability to correctly use punctuation and grammar. Excellent copywriting and editing skills.
  3. Effectively work well with others in a collaborative, respectful manner.
  4. Exceptional time management and organizational skills with capacity to handle high volumes of detailed work, multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines.
  5. Maintain professional demeanor with a high degree of discretion, integrity, and accountability.
  6. Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance.

You will be required to meet the following:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment.
  2. Minimum two (2) to four (4) years of experience working in sports journalism, sports information department, PR agency, or similar discipline.
  3. Prior work experience in MLB PR department a plus.
  4. Fluently bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
  5. Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed.
  6. Able to travel as needed.
  7. Minimum physical requirements: able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark for prolonged periods of time during games and events; able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
  8. As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check.

Pay and additional compensation:

Per the California pay transparency law, the base hourly range for this full-time position is $21.63 to $25.00 plus overtime (based on experience). As a candidate for this position, your pay and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills and any other factors the San Diego Padres considers relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
