Job description

The University of Evansville (UE) Division of Student Affairs is seeking a dynamic, student-centered professional to join our team as the Coordinator for Student Engagement. This is a pivotal, multi-faceted role dedicated to fostering a vibrant, inclusive campus community where every student can thrive from day one.

As the Coordinator, you will play a central role in welcoming new students through our Student Orientation and Academic Registration (SOAR) program, championing international student onboarding, advising student and cultural organizations, and leading high-impact community service initiatives. If you are passionate about student success, intercultural engagement, and higher education administration, we invite you to apply.

Key Responsibilities

The Coordinator balances program management, student advising, and compliance oversight across several key areas:

  • Student Orientation (SOAR): Serve as the primary coordinator for the University’s SOAR program. Partner with the Director of Student Engagement (strategy) and administrative staff (logistics) to align timelines, train Orientation Leaders, and provide on‑site leadership for a seamless student transition.
  • International Student Engagement & Support: Partner closely with the International Services Specialist to provide high‑contact support for international students. Coordinate international onboarding (arrival initiatives, airport pickups, International Ambassador program), advise the International Club, and serve as a backup Designated School Official (DSO) / Responsible Officer (RO) for SEVIS compliance.
  • Community Service Initiatives: Coordinate major campus‑wide service events, including the New Student Day of Service (Welcome Week) and MLK Day of Service. Oversee the Community Service Federal Work‑Study program by managing student employees and maintaining strong partnerships with local Evansville nonprofits.
  • Student Organization & Cultural Advising: Review and approve student organization events, provide process guidance, and advise cultural organizations on programming to elevate intercultural events on campus (e.g., International Bazaar, International Food Fest).
  • Campus Collaboration: Support broad campus programming efforts, contribute to division‑wide initiatives, and serve on university committees to champion diversity and global perspectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 1–2 years of relevant experience in higher education, student affairs, orientation programs, or international student services (2–4 years preferred).
  • Core Competencies: Exceptional organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication, and a deeply student‑centered approach.
  • Cultural Competency: Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse populations and international student communities.
  • Flexibility: Adaptability to thrive in fast‑paced, high‑energy environments (such as orientation and welcome weeks).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating new student orientation or transition programs.
  • Familiarity with community engagement, service‑learning, or local nonprofit partnerships.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring student staff (e.g., orientation leaders or work‑study students).
  • Familiarity with SEVIS and F-1/J-1 international student regulations.
