Job description

Overview

Oversees the functions of the Fitness Lab within the Wellness Department, ensuring proper use of equipment and safety protocols. Responsible for teaching proper lifting and spotting techniques and verifying that only approved individuals use the facility.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in health, physical education, kinesiology, wellness, or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience with fitness equipment in a lab setting.
  • Teaching experience at the college level in health, physical education, kinesiology, or wellness; experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Preferred certifications include: American Council on Exercise, National Strength and Conditioning Association, American College of Sports Medicine.
  • Experience in supervision, exercise programming, wellness initiatives, and professional development.

Responsibilities
  1. Monitor all individuals in the facility, planning and directing physical conditioning programs to optimize performance.
  2. Ensure proper use of all equipment by patrons.
  3. Conduct health history interviews and risk assessments for cardiovascular disease to determine exercise suitability.
  4. Provide training, demonstrations, motivation, and nutritional advice to athletes and patrons.
  5. Educate patrons on health and fitness topics to promote healthy behaviors.
  6. Evaluate programs for safety, effectiveness, and appropriateness.
  7. Monitor proper lifting, exercise techniques, and spotting.
  8. Maintain equipment operation and efficiency.
  9. Stay updated on exercise techniques, technologies, and philosophies.
  10. Report equipment issues and ensure repairs are completed by certified technicians.
  11. Create a welcoming environment with excellent customer service.
  12. Recognize scope of practice and refer clients to healthcare professionals when needed.
  13. Respond to wellness program inquiries and maintain records and reports.
  14. Be prepared for emergencies and respond appropriately.
