Job Summary
The Coordinator, Fitness coordinates, markets, and facilitates health and fitness programming that supports the health and well-being of the University community. The coordinator plays a key role in engaging the community through innovative fitness initiatives, outreach, and educational programming. The Coordinator oversees fitness staff, operations, including recruitment, training, and ongoing professional development.
Duties
- Plans, schedules, and promotes a variety of health and fitness programs, including fitness classes, wellness workshops, fitness challenges, personal training, nutrition counseling, and massage therapy
- Oversees fitness programs and services within the Wellness and Success Center, including group fitness, personal training, health and wellness education, and fitness challenges
- Recruits, hires, supervises, and schedules fitness program staff, including Personal Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, and Fitness Center Attendants
- Designs and implements systems to foster participant accountability, evaluate program outcomes, and recognize achievements
- Develops and administers assessment tools to evaluate program effectiveness in alignment with the department’s strategic goals
- Coordinates and facilitates health and fitness programs and services for UHD students, UHD employees, and community members
- Actively supports and participates in university-wide events such as One Main Event, Welcome Week, Health Fair, and Orientation
- Serves as a program advisor, providing leadership and guidance for student and staff engagement in fitness initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of fitness programs, and facilities available in a higher education environment, and of the related trends, issues, and accepted practices
- Knowledge of best practices in group fitness instruction and personal training
Skills:
- Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; good leadership skills
Abilities:
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community
Work Location and Physical Demands
Primary Work Location:
- Works in gymnasium or other physical training room (2 - 4 hours) and a sports field or court (2 - 4 hours)
Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements
- The individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing, etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks
- Work involves occasional exposure to elements, such as extreme or inclement temperatures
- Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Must have the ability to move items of up to 45lbs
Qualifications
Required Education:
Required Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of job-related experience
License/Certification:
- American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED, and First Aid (Within 30 days of employment)
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant Certifications related to Group Fitness Instruction and/or Personal Training
- Current group fitness instructor for one or multiple fitness classes including strength, aerobic or dance focused
