Job summary

Summary

The Coordinator of Creative Video & Reporter is responsible for developing, producing, and executing original multimedia content that enhances the visibility and reputation of Army West Point Athletics. As a key member of the Business Development and Fan Experience team, this position utilizes creativity, professional judgment, and strategic thinking to create compelling video, graphic, written, and social media content that engages fans, supports departmental objectives, and showcases the achievements of Army West Point's 30 varsity programs and 1,200 cadet-athletes. Working collaboratively with coaches, administrators, cadet-athletes, and external partners, the position drives brand awareness through innovative storytelling and audience-focused digital content strategies.

Scope of Impact

The coordinator’s scope of impact will be high due to this position being externally facing towards the United States Military Academy, AWPAA coaching staff, cadet-athletes, fans and constituents.

Level of Decision Making

The level of decision making for this position is moderate. This position will be given autonomy in ideating, planning, capturing, producing and posting graphics, written posts and video content supporting AWPAA teams, coaches and cadet-athletes. This position will be able to directly interface with head coaches, sports administrators, and other external team members to determine best practices and procedures.

Success in this position will be evaluated by the Supervisor on the employee’s performance in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: Commitment to AWPAA Mission, Vision and Values; and supporting the AWPAA Fruits of Victory Strategic Plan and Priority Results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
70% Research, Plan and Capture Content Stories
  • Research, develop and produce content plans to increase awareness of and recognition of AWPAA teams, coaches and cadet-athletes. These responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Produce content to engage and expand the awareness of Army West Point athletics to fans, cadet-athletes, coaches, recruits and families through all digital platforms in a variety of formats (i.e. graphics, and video pieces).
  • Serve as on-camera talent/host and produce digital content to support Army West Point teams and build the Army West Point brand.
  • Create and produce Army West Point video segments (previews, recaps, news and notes, interviews, championships,, special events etc.) and human-interest features on teams and individual cadet-athletes.
  • Assist and execute the Army West Point social media strategy across its social media channels, not limited to digital presence, engagement, monitoring, content creation, promotion and analytics.
  • Create high quality graphical messaging and creative content that is consistent and in line with the Army West Point brand identity.
  • Provide real-time coverage of Army West Point games and events. Be actively involved in social media conversation while consistently engaging with fans and followers.
  • To succeed with these responsibilities, candidates must be able to:
    • Be the lead video representative in sport specific external meetings;
    • Work with coaches and team operations staff;
    • Develop content storylines and interview questions;
    • Collaborate with other external groups (e.g. ticket office) to support the overall marketing efforts; and
    • Collaborate with sponsorship group on sponsored initiatives and fulfillment.
20% Oversees Assets & Inventory
  • Assist with the digital archiving of Army West Point photos and videos.
  • Work with the communications staff to ensure correct labeling and organization of digital archives.
  • Oversee inventory, maintenance/upkeep and updates of certain video and audio equipment.
10% Other Duties as Assigned.

This position will supervise interns:

  • Provide direction and guidance on day-to-day work.
  • Implement monthly meetings to promote career development.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

Perform duties in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary or active position for 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally moves equipment or boxes weighing up to up to 30 lbs.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with team members and USMA staff and vendors.
  • Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Travel

5-10% Travel will be based on the nature of the team’s schedule (i.e., championship tournament, service academy games, etc.) and on the need for assistance for home events.

Required Qualifications
  • A passion for college athletics.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Broadcast, Journalism or related field; a combination of education and relevant experience may substitute.
  • 1-3 years in communications, broadcast or journalism or related fields.
  • Must have extensive experience using the following programs Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Box, Zoom and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong writing skills and excellent news judgment.
  • Deep knowledge of sports in general and football, NCAA football, in particular.
  • An unwavering commitment to accurate, ethical journalism.
  • Willingness to collaborate frequently as part of a team.
  • Initiative to develop a strong network of sources to find and pursue stories that will reach a broad audience.
  • An interest in telling stories using a variety of media and engagement tools, and an enthusiasm for learning new skills and technologies.
  • Fluency in the science of readership and engagement, including an understanding of metrics/analytics and an understanding of SEO and other audience optimization tactics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy and the ability to take and give constructive criticism.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must have excellent time management skills and experience working on multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Previous experience in administrative roles within athletic departments or relevant organizations is advantageous.
  • Experience producing a wide range of video, web and graphic elements from concept to creation.
  • Ensure multimedia assets adhere to branding, copyright, and broadcast standards.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot an ENG and DSLR-type camera equipment, sound equipment, and studio lighting.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or other editing software.
  • Experience in directing talent, coaches, and players during interviews and commercial shoots.
  • Possess knowledge of the content delivery process with media entities and outside vendors.
  • Ability to report in front of a camera.
  • Possess the ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-management, institutional personnel, and vendors.
  • Be familiar and proficient with social media platforms.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
