TheOfficeofOperations (OoO) iscomprisedof the Strategic School Operations, FoodandNutrition Services, School Security, andFacilitiesPlanningandDesign divisions.OoOis responsible forguiding the operations and functions for all117schools within theDistrict. Our mission is to ensure DCPS Stakeholders – principals, teachers, students, and central services teams – have the operationalsystems,facilities, and support to be excellent.
Divisions/Teams:
- TheOperations Strategy team manages major initiatives across allOoOteams and oversees the DCPS Operations Center, the central operations hub which receives, triages, dispatches, monitors, and analyzes both emergency and non-emergency issues related to all operations functions across all117DCPS Schools, central servicesoffice, warehouse, satellite sites, and related properties. The Operations Strategy team directly supports the Chief OperatingOfficer to ensure all schools and DCPS divisions are supported and to operationalizeOoO’smission and vision. The team managesoffice-wide initiatives including budget oversight, procurement support, fleet management, and strategic planning.
- TheFacilities Planning and Designdivision iscomprisedof two main teams: Modernizations and Small Capital Projects. The Manager supports the overallFacilitiesPlanning and Design approach for both teams.
- TheSchool Securitydivision provides direct, day-to-day school safety and security related support to all DCPS schools. Thisdivision iscomprisedof the Contract SecurityandTraining, DCPS Special Police, and Physical Security teams. The mission of theSchool Security division is to ensure the safety and security of all DCPS students, staff, buildings, public spaces, and property. Asafe school promotes a healthy learning environment – where teachers can teach, Principals can lead, and students can learnand enjoy a rich academic experience.
- TheStrategic School Operations (SSO)division provides direct, day-to-day support to all DCPS schools, students, and staff. The Division consists of the following areas of focus: day-to-day support from SSO specialists, School StrategyandLogistics program, Intra/Interagency Affairs, Emergency PreparednessandGuidance, and Warehouselogistics. The mission of the SSO division is to provide excellent customer service and operational support toschool. The division has a 1:1 ratio of School Operations Specialists to each school cluster. SSO is prepared to support and liaise on behalf of schools to ensure they are equipped with and connected to appropriate operational resources.
- TheWarehouse and Logisticsteamwithin the Strategic School Operations division provides direct operational support to all DCPS schools. The Warehouse consists of the following areas of focus: emergency supplies and equipment, textbook replacements and closed school records, mail distribution, special event support, shippingandreceiving, DCPS fleet management and copier management, emergency school moves and surplusofficeand student furniture. The mission of the WarehouseandLogistics department is to provide DC Public Schools with the logistical support necessary to achieve its academic mission.
- TheFood and Nutrition Services (FNS)division is recognized for its healthy andinnovative school food. The Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) division is recognized for its healthy andinnovative school food. The scope of the DCPS FNS’ operations extends beyond school meals to include nutrition-related activities such as school gardens and farm-to-school as well as environmental sustainability and stewardship initiatives for cafeteria operations. FNS is made up of three smaller teams: Finance, Strategy andData, Nutrition, Compliance & Partnerships, and Food Service Operations. The mission of the DCPS FNS is: All DC Public Schools students are engaged and have access to wholesome and delicious meals that promote long-term wellness, preparation for learning, and satisfaction with their school.
The Compliance division is made up of the Internal Audit, Special Education Compliance, Risk Management, and Comprehensive Alternative Resolution and Equity (CARE) teams. The Compliance division works closely with various federal and district agencies, including but not limited to the Department of Education, Office of the Inspector General, Office of the District of Columbia Auditor, Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Office of Human Rights, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, and Metropolitan Police Department on an as needed basis. The division receives concerns and complaints from students, parents, and third parties and provides effective and equitable resolution to issues raised, conducts internal audits of DCPS programs, and oversees the management of all audits of DCPS conducted by external entities. The division is also responsible for identifying and mitigating risks and working and collaborating to ensure safety. The Compliance team’s mission is to work with all Schools and Central Services departments to ensure that operations and programming are compliant with applicable DCPS, District, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
The Coordinator, Compliance Risk and Safety is responsible for collaborating with multiple stakeholders within schools and Central Services to ensure that agreed upon corrective actions are implemented within the agreed upon time frame. The Coordinator will also collect and analyze data across the agency to identify trends and make recommendations to improve service delivery to students and other stakeholders. The Coordinator will create systems for improvement and build relationships necessary to help ensure a safe learning environment is maintained.
This position has been designated as Safety Sensitive. Pursuant to section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations; in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying safety sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests: Criminal background check; Sex Offender Registry check; Pre-employment drug and alcohol test; Traffic record check (as applicable); Reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test; and Post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test.
The Coordinator, Compliance Risk and Safety will report to the Director, Risk Management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Data Management and Digital Platform Coordination: Coordinate data collection efforts and track digital platforms such as Quickbase, SharePoint, and various web applications. Collects, arranges, and preserves investigation-related information to ensure data accuracy, security, and the effective utilization of digital tools in support of DCPS’ compliance and risk management objectives.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Develop, liaise, and maintain effective partnerships with various stakeholders across schools and Central Services. Interacts with and responds effectively to urgent requests from multiple internal and external DCPS stakeholders. This collaboration is pivotal in ensuring the timely and effective implementation of agreed-upon corrective actions.
- Trend Analysis and Recommendations: Identifies patterns/trends in data. Assists in the comprehensive analyses of agency-wide data to discern trends that may impact compliance, risk, and safety management. Utilizes these insights to formulate and advocate for strategic improvements in service delivery to students and other key stakeholders. Willing to travel across the district to all DC Public Schools for the purpose of conducting safety and compliance inspections, evaluations, or investigations on developing issues.
- System Development for Improvement: Maintain robust systems aimed at enhancing risk management operational efficiency and effectiveness. These systems will facilitate continuous improvement and support DCPS’ commitment to maintaining a safe educational environment. Also, assists in the creation of a system to monitor compliance of all requirements and timelines specified in Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) and Memoranda ofUnderstanding (MOUs).
- Compliance and Safety: Provides technical support to schools and Central Services departments regarding compliance, risk, and/or safety activities. Plays an integral role in developing and sustaining safe and secure learning atmospheres through diligent compliance and risk management efforts. Collaborates with schools and Central Services departments to ensure timely implementation of corrective action plans, and submission of agency reports for potential tort and safety infractions to drive collaboration and training for risk protocols.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and two to four years of related work experience.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
- Experience with OCTO Quickbase, SharePoint, and web-based applications preferred.
- Sound analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Attention to detail, and ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in or exposure to risk management programs, safety, or compliance a plus.
