Job description

Superintendent

All superintendents report to the Field Operations Manager and Construction Manager Daily. Supervisor must properly and effectively communicate with crew. The supervisor has the primary responsibility for administration and enforcement of the safety program within the field. They are responsible for ensuring the job is on schedule, under budget, and performed to the standards that Cooling Towers LLC expects. As a superintendent, job quality, safety, and schedule fall on you as your responsibility. Cooling Towers LLC has a Field Operations Manager and Safety Director that are available 24/7 should you need assistance. However, if you do not involve them they can not assist you. The superintendent is responsible for ensuring they have an experienced crew. You will be responsible for recruiting your own crew with help from HR. The superintendent will assign job tasks. After lunch break, pull everyone together to make sure everyone is on the same page (review hazards they may have changed). Good communication is the key. Be sure to treat your crew with respect, while attempting nothing but perfection. Your success is a direct reflection of your crew's success.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate all activities of foremen and carpenters involved in the reconditioning of cooling towers. Insure all crewmen are working productivity and safely.
  • Keep track of work schedule and report to Field Operations Manager on a daily basis.
  • Responsible to identify and report to Field Operations Manager all change order work.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate payroll reporting, T&M sheet reporting and job logs. Must track job hours daily and report to Field Operations Manager. This goes for T&M or Firm pricing.
  • Responsible that truck, gang boxes, and trailer (if applicable) have necessary equipment and supplies required for the project they are working. Maintain proper inventory on truck and tools. (i.e.: spare parts, hardware, tools, PPE, Safety Manuals, MSDS Books, etc.)
  • Coordinate all activities on the job site, Material Inventory, assure we have everything necessary to complete the project on time or better. Assure all equipment required is on site. Report all to Field Operations Manager.
  • Responsible for daily job site safety. Job Hazard Analysis, Site Specific, etc. Responsible for reporting all PPE needs for each specific job.
  • Functions as a liaison between the owner, the crew and office to communicate all needs on the job promptly.
  • Responsible for all on-site Safety & JSA’s
  • Follow all procedures outlined in your Superintendent’s Manual
  • Review Your Job Packs.
Tasks
  • All supervisors must be sure all tools and materials are signed in and out on the proper forms (located in Field Managers office)
  • All supervisors are responsible to do tool inventory monthly and turn into Field Manager on the 1 st of each month.
  • All supervisors are responsible to grade each employee monthly and send to field manager the first of each month.
  • Talk to contact one or two days before job starts
  • Discuss job scope with manager
  • Discuss job scope with foreman and crew before starting work
  • Make sure you receive all material for job and don’t wait till last minute to order materials
  • Talk to contact in the morning and evening; make sure they’re happy. Communicate any issues with the field operations manager.
  • All supervisors are responsible for disciplinary action when necessary and to reward employees for good ideas. For example, better working conditions, saving time and money. Safety improvements
  • Call manager one or two times a day for updates
  • Make punch list before final walk through and check quality of work (I.E. check for wood treat and nail pattern is straight, etc)
  • Send T&M sheets and time sheets daily, JSA daily
  • JSA before work starts; make sure everyone on crew gets involved with safety meeting
  • Time, per diem, travel, safety classes, and truck pay- call office, not manager
  • Plan job- put the right people for the job
  • Have a buddy system; never put a new hire climbing until you are sure of his or her ability
  • Pay raises go through Field Operations Manager and Constructions Manager-paper work must be filled out
  • Supervisor and workers must look respectful- you represent Cooling Towers LLC
  • When job is over, return all rentals ASAP
  • Job completion report must be filled out and signed
  • Keep a journal of daily activities, down time, or any other problems
  • When hiring a Forman, beware that the foreman should be able to do your job
  • The leadsman should be able to do the foreman’s job
  • Cooling Towers LLC believes in promoting within. Spend the time to train your crew to advance. This will create a strong and motivated crew.
  • Introduce foreman to the contact
  • Make sure color codes are in place
  • Inspect or have someone inspect tools daily for damage
  • Inspect harness and safety equipment before each use; make sure your employees know this
  • Be responsible for keeping up with you and your employee’s safety classes, do not let them expire
  • Report all injuries and near misses as soon as they happen, follow guidelines set out in Superintendent’s Manual for this.
  • Make sure you have enough employees for the job and report manpower
  • Give the office the names of employees
  • Establish a solid relationship with employees. Explain that being successful means working together. Explain what you expect from them. When they do wrong take them off to the side not in front of the other employees; when they do good, tell them in front of everyone
  • If your foreman is having problems with the crew step in and help he/she solve the problem
  • If a large tool or high priced item is needed, let manager know before renting or buying
  • Keep track of all your tools, make sure when someone quits or gets laid off they return all Cooling Towers LLC property
  • If questions arise about how to do a job, call Field Operations Manager & Construction Manager and discuss proper way.
  • Superintendent will set clear expectation and consequences for safe and unsafe behaviors
Review the following daily
  • Review company and client’s safety policies
  • Review company’s work procedures and policies
  • Share data on injuries that pertain to the job
  • Communicate to workers that safe work is required
  • Answer any questions workers may have on procedures and policies
  • Train the workers on daily expectations
  • Review the violation process
  • Set expectations for intervention when unsafe acts are observed
  • Tell workers to ask for help when needed (Do not manhandle)
  • Discuss with worker to work in professional manner
  • Review inclement weather conditions (weather does change)
  • Communicate and verify the PPE that is required for the job
  • Tour the job site and raise workers awareness of possible hazards
  • Verify new hire is aware of required use of JSA
  • Review housekeeping policy and expectations
  • Review emergency procedures and communicate assembly points
  • Show worker nearest safety shower/ eyewash and how to operate
  • Verify workers have the right tools to do the job in a safe manner
  • Make sure hole watch has a vest and horn, make sure hole watch is aware of job duties
  • Make sure crew has plenty of water on site
  • Verify hole watch sign in sheet is up to date throughout the day
  • JSA is complete, reviewed and available
  • T&M sheets are up to date
  • Forklifts, man lifts, any other heavy equipment paper work is done
  • Quality of work meets the expectations of Cooling Towers LLC
