Description
The Assembler II assembles radiators by matching and mating finished cores with other components such as tanks and filler necks. The Assembler II receives specific work assignments under general supervision and resolves most problems with limited supervisory assistance. All work is subject to final inspection and test to insure that radiators meet established specifications and to control excess labor and material expense. The Assembler II is expected to practice and adhere to the Company’s Six Sigma principles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:
- Reviews job orders (written or verbal) and determines specific build requirements.
- Selects and assembles proper materials and parts for completing radiators.
- Assembles radiators by performing various manual tasks including:
- Fitting accessories (tanks/filler necks) to radiator cores.
- Attaching accessories (marrying core to tank) through mechanical and other means.
- Bolting, gluing or otherwise joining various components together.
- Tack welding or hand soldering components when necessary.
- Inspects radiator assemblies for defects.
- Cleans and maintains work area (daily), radiator side equipment and other tools of the trade.
- Works in a safe manner at all times.
- Insures that all work is done in accordance with and adheres to IEA’s ISO and Quality standards.

Physical Demands:
- Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 100 (occasionally), 50 (frequently), 25 (very frequently).
- Maximum moving requirement (pounds): 100.
- Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent standing, walking, climbing, crouching, stooping, squatting, and twisting upper body; infrequent sitting.
- Working at heights off the ground up to: 20 feet.
- Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.
Work Environment:
- Work location: Metal fabrication/assembly shop.
- Exposure to: Fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment including overhead cranes, sharp/heavy materials.
- Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses, gloves and safety shoes.
Qualifications
- Key skills, abilities and knowledge:
- Ability to read and understand job requirements, shop drawings, bills of material and blueprints.
- Knowledge of properties of core materials, structural metals and related materials (OJT).
- Skill in assembling radiators using personal tools and shop equipment and related tools (OJT).
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.
- Experiential: Two or more years of manufacturing or related experience is desirable. Company will train employees on the job but prior experience in Core Side is highly desirable.
- Educational: Related technical training (high school or beyond) is desirable but not essential.
- Certificates, Licenses: Fork lift operator certification.
