GENERAL PURPOSE:

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Cooking School Chef. This person will assist with educating customers on how to cook with the high-quality products, tools, and ingredients that we sell. Our cooking school allows everyday people to learn basic to advanced recipes in a relaxed atmosphere.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  2. Ensures the cooking school is clean, well-maintained, and meets company standards of appearance
  3. Preps products for use in the cooking school
  4. Teaches and/or facilitates cooking school classes in an engaging manner
  5. Delivers excellent customer service while assisting with teaching hands-on and demonstrative classes in the cooking school, hosting private events in the cooking school, and catering special events.
  6. Assists with the development of recipes for use in the cooking school
  7. Effectively markets and sells Harmons’ products
  8. Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  9. Assists with the planning of menus and purchasing necessary ingredients
  10. Sets a professional and positive example to others
  11. Communicates effectively and works closely with the Cooking School Chef and Cooking School Coordinator
  12. Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity are maintained
  13. Assists in other areas as needed

MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mentors, provides feedback, and completes necessary paperwork for cooking school student interns. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

  1. Consistent and daily interaction with store associates
  2. Consistent and daily interaction with customers

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  1. A 2-year college or technical school degree in culinary arts; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  2. Ability to multitask while teaching
  3. Must have current TIPS Certification and Food Handler’s Permit
  4. Wide range of knowledge in food, ingredients, knife skills, and cooking techniques
  5. Is approachable, personable, relaxed, and passionate
  6. Ability to interpret policies and procedures
  7. Excellent organization and planning skills
  8. Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills in order to effectively and efficiently communicate with diverse groups of people
  9. Ability to professionally and appropriately handle conflict
  10. Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team
  11. Required to make logical, significant decisions using general, recognized skills and techniques
  12. Must possess integrity, a positive attitude, be mission-driven, and be self-directed with a demonstrated passion for Harmon’s mission and commitment to working collaboratively
  13. Continually strives to be product minded, customer minded, personnel minded, detailed, consistent, and forward focused
  14. Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment with the possibility of frequent exposure to hot, cold, and wet conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and eye, hand, and foot coordination; hear and respond to customer inquiries. Also requires standing, walking, and bending throughout the entire workday and the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds from location to location.
