Job Summary

The cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, seasoning, and serving nutritious, attractive, and balanced meals, including meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits, soups, salads, desserts, breads, and pastries, according to menus. The role involves adhering to federal, state, and company policies and regulations.

Position Overview
  • Prepare palatable and attractive food, adhering to meal schedules.
  • Follow standard recipes with independent judgment based on experience.
  • Understand proper food handling and hazards.
  • Know seasoning and cooking times for various foods.
  • Estimate quantities and monitor portion control.
  • Prepare ingredients: peel, wash, trim vegetables and fruits; process meats, fish, and poultry.
  • Ensure food conformity with recipes and appearance through tasting and observation.
  • Serve food according to dietary guidelines, checking for completeness and accuracy.
  • Cook using baking, roasting, stewing, steaming; prepare gravies, stocks, sauces, and soups.
  • Prepare cold dishes, sandwiches, cereals, and beverages.

Education: High school diploma preferred; minimum ability to read and write English.

Experience: Previous dietary experience in healthcare preferred.
