Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Cook's Helper to assist the Chef in preparing and cooking all foods in a hospital setting. The role emphasizes teamwork and patient-centered service within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities include trimming and prepping meats and vegetables, bulk preparation of cold foods, salad bar setup, and maintaining cleanliness while delivering excellent service to patients and staff.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assists the Chef in the preparation and cooking of all foods.
• Assists on a daily basis in cutting, washing and preparing of meats and vegetables for cooking.
• Prepares on a daily basis all cold foods in bulk, such as tuna fish, chicken salad, egg salad for cafeteria and patients.
• Sets-up and cleans on a daily basis all produce, vegetables and fresh fruit for the salad bar in the Cafeteria and Physician's Dining Room.
• Prepares on a daily basis all jellos, puddings and custards for patient and cafeteria use.
• Cooks off on a daily basis all roasted meats for patient and cafeteria use.
• Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
• Works on the patient's tray line, serving the soups and pureed foods.
• Covers a cook's position on the weekends and for vacations.
• Maintains a clean, safe, neat work area.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

• Minimum of 2 years cooking experience in a hospital setting.

Minimum rate of $17.24 Hourly
