Responsibilities

• Comes to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
• Presents at work in a clean, neat uniform and a professional appearance.
• Shows aptitude in preparing and prepping cold foods and desserts as directed by the Cook/CDM.
• Sets up, serves cold and hot items and drinks as requested.
• Operates the dish washing machine and cleans pots, pans, dishware, etc.
• Keeps kitchen, dining areas, storerooms and dishwashing areas clean, sanitized, tidy and orderly.
• Performs duties efficiently with a positive attitude towards residents and staff.
• Reports equipment failures or breakages to manager immediately.
• Reports missing or spoiled food items to manager immediately.
• Follows guidance from Cook and CDM, performs duties as assigned.
• Completes assigned monthly automated learning per Homestead Policy.

Position Summary

The Cook’s Assistant is responsible for helping prepare and serve food to the residents in a safe, appetizing, and friendly manner. Their duties are widely varied according to the needs of the Cook and the specific residents and staff who are being served.

Key Responsibilities

• Comes to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality
• Presents at work in a clean, neat uniform and a professional appearance
• Shows aptitude in preparing and prepping cold foods and desserts and other items as directed by the Cook or CDM
• Has ability to set up, serve cold and hot items and appropriate drinks as requested
• Ability to operate the dish cleaning machine and wash all pots, pans, dishware etc.
• Keeps kitchen, dining areas, storerooms and dishwashing areas clean, sanitized, tidy and orderly by utilizing all tools necessary such as mops, brooms, trash receptacles, approved chemicals, etc.
• Keeps all dining room tables, chairs, drink stations and condiment areas clean and sanitize and tidy using appropriate tools as above
• Performs the duties of the position in an efficient manner while maintaining a positive attitude and general positive nature towards all residents and other staff and visitors
• Reports all issues with equipment such as failures or breakages to manager immediately
• Reports all issues with regard to missing, spoiled, excessive food items to manager immediately
• Follows guidance from the Cook and the CDM, performing duties as assigned
• Completes assigned monthly automated learning in accordance with Homestead Policy

Qualifications: Qualifications:

• Prior experience in healthcare foodservice preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent education
• Ability to multitask in regard to preparing, serving, and meeting customer needs
• Demonstrated initiative and desire to promote a teamwork atmosphere

Work Environment

• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Able to withstand extreme temperatures, hot and cold
• Able to work long hours, including scheduled evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Able to interact positively with all demographics of people
