Position Close Date: 05/27/25

Position Summary: The Cook plans and prepares large batch meals in a fast-paced environment at the Women's Residential Center under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager. Individual must be able to maintain a clean kitchen and work area, and comply with sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards.

Compensation: $18.61 - $24.83/hour (Depends on Experience and/or Certifications). This is a part-time position with excellent benefits! Benefits package includes dental and vision insurance, life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, 403(b) with automatic 5.5% contribution after 18-months regardless of employee participation, generous paid time off plan, flexible spending account, employee assistance program, and other voluntary benefits and discounts.

Education, Training And Experience

  • Prior commercial cooking experience is preferred.
  • USDA recipes and guidelines experience preferred.
  • Current Multnomah County Food Handlers Permit or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience working within a nonprofit or social services environment preferred.

Competencies

  • Experienced with cutting tools, cookware and bakeware.
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures (grilling, sautéing, boiling, baking, etc.)
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to develop rapport with clients and others.
  • Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Prefer an active drivers license, current insurance, and ability to pass our insurers driving standards.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally, stand, bend, walk and reach.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepare large batch meals.
  • Assist with events and set up in a timely manner so that quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved.
  • Follow production sheets and recipes.
  • Always maintain a clean kitchen and work area.
  • Work with kitchen staff to assure quality and great service is provided.
  • Provide training and support to staff and volunteers.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment: Works in a kitchen using equipment such as stove, oven, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, mixer, and chefs knives to prepare food. Requires standing 4 or more hours a day. Employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, and noise.

Schedule: This is a part-time position, 20 hrs. per week. Saturday and Sunday, and one weekday to be determined based on program needs.
