Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the Dietary Manager, the cook will prepare, season, and cook food for hospital patients, staff, and visitors.
Essential Functions
- Determine types and quantities of meats, vegetables, and soups to be prepared by reviewing planned menus.
- Calculate the amount of food needed to meet weekly menus.
- Ensure meals are ready at specified times.
- Consult with Registered Dietitian on modified diets as necessary.
- Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes, using kitchen equipment.
- Prepare sauces, soups, stews, casseroles, and desserts following dietary guidelines.
- Cook meats, fish, and poultry using various methods such as baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming.
- Carve meat, fish, and poultry into servings according to menu and diet orders.
- Test food for doneness and adjust heat as needed.
- Enhance flavor and texture with seasonings and ingredients.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment.
- Support patient safety and reduce healthcare errors.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements and standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in hospital food preparation preferred.
Certifications
- Food Handlers License required.

- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Ability to withstand kitchen heat.
