Job summary

Discovery Behavioral Health is seeking a Cook in Houston, TX to prepare meals according to planned menus and dietary requirements, under the supervision of the Director of Dietary Services and the Clinical Nutritionist. You will ensure meals are palatable, served on time, and comply with HACCP standards.

The role includes reviewing menus, preparing therapeutic diets, and assisting with dishwashing and site sanitation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 1 year of cook or similar experience.

Responsibilities

• Review menus prior to food preparation.
• Inspect special diet trays to ensure correct diet is served.
• Complete administrative forms and reports for the Director of Dietary Services.
• Coordinate with the clinical nutritionist and dietitian as needed.
• Follow all HACCP and policy procedures in kitchen and dining areas.
• Prepare meals according to planned menus and standardized recipes.

Essential Job Functions

• Review menus prior to preparation of food.
• Inspect special diet trays to assure that the correct diet is served to each patient.
• Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submit to the Director of Dietary Services.
• Work with the facility's clinical nutritionist and dietitian as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
• Ensure that all food procedures are followed in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Assist in establishing a food service production line, etc., to assure that meals are prepared on time.
• Process diet changes and new diets as received from the Nursing Department.
• Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus.
• Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
• Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures.
• Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus.
• Prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders.
• Ensure that all meals are correctly prepared and ready to be served at designated meal times
• Oversee and help with dishwashing and daily garbage removal
• Oversee and adhere to all kitchen, dining room and site HACCP procedures
• Ensure that receipt of all foods are stored properly and rotated
• Inspect special diet trays to assure that the correct diet is being served.
• Prepare and serve patients nutritional snacks.
• Assure that appropriate cutlery and equipment are provided with each meal and/or snack.
• Assist the Director of Dietary Services in reviewing treatment plans to assure that a patient's dietary needs are being met.
• Prepare and serve substitute foods to patients who refuse foods served.

Knowledge, Education, & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 1-year experience as a cook or similar role is required.

PRN, on-call

Schedule

5am1:30pm or 10am-6:30pm, as needed

Compensation Range

$15-20 hourly
