Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Duties
- Work throughout the shift on AM Tray Line, Cafeteria, Salad, Dessert, PM Tray Line/Cafeteria positions.
- Prepare food for the patient tray line, cafeteria, and special functions, including hot line, salad, and baking areas.
- Maintain a work rate consistent with hospital standards.
- Complete assignments accurately and timely.
- Meet food production requirements for patients, staff, and physicians.
- Cover, label, and store leftover products properly.
- Use first‑in, first‑out system for product rotation.
- Ensure sufficient supplies for cafeteria and patient meal service.
- Prepare modified diets accurately.
- Report produce received in poor condition and place accurate orders.
- Use garnishes creatively.
- Portion and plate desserts according to production sheets and standard portion control guidelines.
- Maintain knives and utensils safely and sanitarily.
- Minimize waste and efficiently utilize leftovers.
- Monitor food quality, serving temperatures, appearance, and palatability.
- Set up food prior to meal time.
- Monitor portion controls.
- Use cleaning and sanitizing chemicals properly; use red bucket.
- Demonstrate good leadership skills.
- Maintain hygiene, infection control techniques, and meet health department requirements.
- Keep production area, reach‑ins, and walk‑in coolers clean and organized.
- Follow cleaning schedules and clean spills immediately.
- Check in with supervisor at shift start for assignments.
- Follow supervisor’s instructions.
- Practice professional relations skills with patients, guests, other department staff, and co‑workers; notify supervisor of any problems.
- Attend mandatory department meetings and educational in‑services.
- Prepare specially ordered food in a timely manner.
- Assist on patient tray line and cafeteria as requested.
- Keep food carts clean from debris before use.
- Perform other related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1 year of hot cooking experience required.
- Ability to organize, follow written and verbal instructions, and demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
