ROLE

The cook will use their culinary skill to assists in the production and service of safe, nutritious and appealing food for patients, staff, Meals on Wheels and catering clients. Duties of this position include;

Assist with menu planning and recipe development

Ensure proper stock rotation as per departmental policies and procedures; assist with keeping storage areas, refrigerators and freezers clean and organized

Prepare, cook and assemble food for patients, staff and other clients according to Food Premises Regulations and department safety and sanitation policies and procedures; keep work area clean

Meet quality standards and food preparation deadlines for scheduled mealtimes and catering events

Prepare appropriate quantities of food to ensure best use of resources.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

Red Seal Cook Certificate (Assistant Cook or Institutional Cook Certificate is the minimum requirement for staff grandfathered into this position) .

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

Positive attitude to changing environment .

Good working relationships and strong interpersonal skills .

Self-motivated and able to work well under direct supervision or independently .

Proven record of excellent punctuality and attendance .

Must meet physical requirements of the position which includes lifting, standing and walking for long periods of time .

DESIRED SKILLS , EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

Current Food Handler Certificate from Public Health.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Location: Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville & South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) in Bracebridge. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
