The Cook is responsible for preparing menu items utilizing cooking equipment in a fast-paced environment. The Cook must adhere to high food quality standards to ensure guest satisfaction. Portion control, food waste, and sanitation are additional areas that the Cook must be aware of while operating in the kitchen.

Jungle Island, a favorite South Florida landmark, is an intimate zoological park located in the heart of Miami, between downtown Miami and South Beach.

Building upon a rich tradition that began in 1936, Jungle Island is home to some of the world’s rarest and most exotic animals. Park guests enjoy engaging animal shows and informative exhibits while strolling by streams and waterfalls under a lush canopy of tropical trees. Guests can participate in hands-on interactions with fascinating animals or go on guided behind-the-scenes VIP tours. Jungle Island has a rich history, beginning as Parrot Jungle in 1936, created by Franz Scherr. Over the years, it has evolved into a contemporary theme park with diverse wildlife such as lemurs, wallabies, and capybaras. The park, renamed Jungle Island, continues to delight visitors with its flora, exhibits, and attractions.

This role pays an hourly rate of $15 to $19.

  • Responsible for cooking and packaging food to order or keeping it warm until sold.
  • Receives verbal orders from front counter staff for guest orders.
  • Maintains quality and production standards for all menu items, ensuring freshness and high quality.
  • Controls portions and serving temperatures.
  • Handles cleaning, stocking, and restocking of workstations and displays.
  • Operates large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, fryers, and ovens.
  • Ensures cleanliness and proper storage of food and utensils, and that floors are clean at the end of shifts. The Cook must be checked out by the Floor Supervisor to meet cleanliness standards.
  • Maintains sanitation, health, and safety standards.
  • Demonstrates excellent attendance.
  • Communicates professionally and respectfully with staff and guests to promote a positive work environment.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
  • Works well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Possesses a valid food handling certificate if required by regulations.
