$17.00/hr - $17.00/hr

Overview

Cook duties include but are not limited to slicing deli meats and cheeses to order, frying and baking proteins and other products, preparing sandwiches, salads, entrees and more. The Cook provides product suggestions and assists customers with special orders while providing our customers with exceptional customer service. Additionally, the cook stocks and ensures that our customers have a variety of high-quality deli items to choose from. The cook will ensure complete compliance with food safety and sanitation requirements throughout his/her daily work. The cook will clean and sanitize dishes, food preparation areas, and equipment. The cook must strive to support the Go Green Community Fresh Market’s core values and goals, promote store programs and initiatives, and ensure adherence to all applicable health and safety regulations including Food Safety and regulatory duties required in the department.

Key Responsibilities

COOKING/PREPARING

  • Cuts, prepares, and serves a variety of hot and cold foods, including meats, cheeses, sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salads, sides, etc.
  • Samples products to customers.
  • Checks in-stock product dates to ensure freshness and rotates product when necessary.
  • Assists Kitchen Manager in organizing and displaying volume and seasonal items.
  • Completes spoilage, sampling, temperature, and worksheets as required.
  • Assists with periodic inventory checks.
  • Ensures compliance with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Ensures maintenance of a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintains equipment.
  • Performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; ensures accuracy of signs and pricing.
  • Immediately reports safety hazards and violations to the Kitchen Manager or General Manager.

STOCKING

  • Stocks displays with prepared foods from kitchen, walk-in preparation, and refrigerators.
  • Loads, unloads and moves heavy, bulky products.
  • Replenish stock and goods on display shelves.
  • Rotate products and goods according to the company's instructions.
  • Remove expired products from the displays
  • Ensure shelves are clean and neat and organized
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and encourage colleagues to do the same.

COURTESY CLERK

  • Answers customer questions and concerns and follows-up with appropriate personnel.
  • Works with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Maintains knowledge of sales and promotions through listening actively in daily sales briefing
  • Uses conflict resolution skills to de-escalate customer complaints.
  • Communicates with staff to keep the store floor free of hazardous spills.
  • Helps customers navigate their way through the store.
  • Keeps the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards (including backroom and shelves), and dispose of trash.
  • Performs other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work well with a team.
  • Able to thrive in a high-stress and fast-paced environment.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Organized attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with multiple variables as they are presented.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
  • Commitment to company culture and strong customer orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food service sanitation certificate a plus.
  • Working knowledge of natural, organic, vegetarian and other specialty products/supplies, within the grocery retail field a plus.

Physical Requirements And Working Environment

  • Ability to stand/sit for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in close quarters with other people.
  • Ability to see from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to work shifts varying in length and times, including nights, weekends and holidays.

General Skills And Competencies

  • Knife Skills: Ability to chop, slice, dice, and julienne ingredients with precision.
  • Cooking Techniques: Proficiency in grilling, frying, sautéing, baking, steaming, broiling, and braising.
  • Understanding of Ingredients: Knowledge of fresh produce, meats, and seafood, and how to handle them properly.
  • Menu Knowledge: Understanding of seasonal ingredients and how they can be used in various dishes.
  • Recipe Execution: Ability to follow and adjust recipes while maintaining flavor and presentation.
  • HACCP Knowledge: Understanding and application of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles.
  • Food Storage: Proper storage of ingredients to ensure freshness and reduce waste.
  • Sanitation Practices: Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, including sanitizing surfaces, utensils, and equipment.
  • Cross-Contamination Prevention: Understanding how to prevent contamination between raw and cooked foods.
  • Knife Maintenance: Understanding how to sharpen knives and ensure they are used correctly.
  • Equipment Use: Proficiency with kitchen tools like blenders, mixers, food processors, grills, fryers, and ovens.
  • Customer-Focused: Ability to understand and meet customer needs, particularly in a market with fresh food.
  • Clear Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with team members, managers, and customers to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
