Job summary

Obsolete Site is seeking a full-time cafeteria cook to perform a full range of simple cooking, prepare hot cereals, soups, gravies, and sandwich fillings. You will set up salad bars, measure ingredients, and follow precise recipes while maintaining cleanliness and food safety.

The role requires ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, with eligibility checks and background requirements typical for federal facilities. On-site work at the Fort Knox location is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares hot cereals and concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces and gravies.
  • Makes cold sandwich fillings. Sets up and replenishes salad bar. Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading.
  • Weighs, measures, and assembles ingredients for regular and modified menu items. Mixes ingredients according to precisely written recipes.
  • Covers, dates, and stores leftovers according to established procedures.
  • Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources. Disassembles, cleans and assembles component parts and accessories.
  • Cleans other work areas and equipment, such as worktables, floors, walk-in refrigerators, etc., on an established cleaning schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Conditions of employment
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a medical examination.
  • Incumbent may be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Health Screening and Immunizations Required.

PCS Costs
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
Allowances and Differentials
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
