Job summary

Amity Foundation in Los Angeles seeks a compassionate Cook to prepare three balanced meals daily for our prison program students. You will ensure sanitation, nutrition, and safety while following recipes to maintain quality and cost control.

You will work with the Food Service Manager on daily planning, ordering, and training of students in food service; you will participate in Community Building day activities and ensure meals are served on time in a supportive, community-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED or actively pursuing HS Diploma or GED.
• 1 year related culinary experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Current state driver's license.
• ServeSafe Certification.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
• Maintain social, ethical, and organizational values; respect confidentiality.
• Applies high-performance standards to all work‑related activities.

Responsibilities

• Works directly with the Food Service Manager in daily planning, preparation, and presentation of three meals daily for the program.
• Assists in ordering and storing food meeting CDPH and LA County Health standards.
• Follows the monthly rotation menu.
• Helps maintain a high standard of physical excellence in dining room and kitchen.
• Assists in training students learning food service skills, including cooking and presentation.
• Attends Community Building day activities.
• Follows the Community schedule and presents all meals on time.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

About the Position

Cook is responsible for the preparation of all meals, assuring that the meals are prepared on time, assuring that sanitation, nutrition, and safety are priorities at all times, and assuming responsibility for following all recipes in order to maintain quality and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Works directly with the Food Service Manager in the daily planning, preparation, and presentation of three (3) balanced meals a day for the entire program.
• Assists in the ordering and storing of food that meets all CDPH, and LA County Health Department food preparation standards.
• Follows the monthly rotation menu.
• Helps maintain a high standard of physical excellence in the foodservice dining room and kitchen.
• Assists in the training and development of students learning the vocation of food service which includes cooking, food preparation, and presentation of the meal, dining room. esthetics, food storage procedures, and daily hygiene.
• Attends Community Building day activities.
• Follows the Community schedule and presents all meals on time.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED) or actively working toward HS Diploma or GED.
• One year related culinary experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Current state driver's license.
• ServeSafe Certification.
