Scope of Work: The Cook II is responsible for independently preparing and cooking large quantities of food in a high-volume dining facility while ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance with food safety standards.

This is a part-time, on-call position. Hours will vary based on operational needs and may include weekdays, weekends, evenings, or holidays. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently prepare large quantities of food using a variety of cooking methods as prescribed by Army recipes and local menu plans
  • Provides proper plate-up and portion control
  • Operate, maintain, and clean kitchen equipment
  • Display good customer relation skills and take initiative to greet guests in a friendly manner.
  • Maintains and records proper temperature controls, food storage, and food rotation.
  • Performs all side work and setup/breakdown duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of prior cooking experience in a full-service restaurant is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a ServSafe certification.
  • Experience in a military kitchen (DFAC) is preferred.
  • Must satisfactorily complete Food Service Medical Clearance (Tri Service Food Code - TB Med 530).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a fully adjudicated Secret Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain an interim Secret Clearance prior to start.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.
  • All candidates must successfully complete pre-employment screening, which may include a criminal background check, motor vehicle record review, and a 5-panel drug test, in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced commercial kitchen environment with exposure to heat, noise, sharp tools, and cleaning chemicals; requires adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, bending, squatting, standing, and reaching for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work on-call, alternate, and extended shifts as needed to support mission requirements, including nights, weekends, and holidays. To meet contractual obligations, employees may also be required to remain on-site for extended periods during scheduled exercises or real-world events (e.g., 24-hour lockdowns).
