Job summary

Hard Rock Casino Rockford is seeking a kitchen team member to assist with food preparation across outlets. You will help create guest-focused experiences while ensuring high-quality plates and presentation.

The role requires basic cooking knowledge, sanitation, and the ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 casino environment. The successful candidate will have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and may have a culinary apprenticeship or Associate’s degree.

• Basic food preparation knowledge and line work experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of foods in assigned kitchen outlet.
• Create an inviting guest experience and mentor team members to deliver superior guest service.
• Prepare foods by grilling, frying, baking, poaching, or pantry duties to match customer specs.
• Ensure plates are aesthetically appealing and properly seasoned with appropriate sauces.
• Maintain clean and organized workstation and assist co-workers for efficient operation.
• Support events or parties as needed and assist with setup/teardown activities.
• Ensure safety and sanitation, report equipment issues and hazardous areas.
• Be flexible with shifts, including holidays and weekends, and comply with all policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Under the direction of the Sous Chef, the incumbent assists with preparation of foods in assigned kitchen outlet.
• Creates an atmosphere that induces guests to make Hard Rock Casino Rockford their choice for gaming entertainment; responsible for actively building and retaining guest relations and acts as a mentor to team members to provide superior guest service.
• Prepares foods that are to be grilled, fried, broiled, baked, boiled, braised, poached, or prepared in the pantry; ensures that all plates or pans served are aesthetically appealing and cooked to the specifications of the customer and the chef.
• Recognizes a variety of sauces and properly places them on all entrees featured on daily menus.
• Keeps workstation neat and clean.
• Assist co-workers to ensure efficient operation of the kitchen.
• On occasion, you may perform duties for special events/ parties.
• Ensures cleanliness of working area; reports all equipment for safety failures, hazardous areas, and accidents.
• Ensures the proper storing of any foods, including those from a previous function.
• Ensures that items are fully stocked, and equipment is in good working condition.
• Ensures the proper closing down of workstations.
• Assists with other duties at special events or parties and assisting where necessary to include but not limited to carving, cooking, setting up and or teardown stations or work areas or other duties as assigned.
• Attend and participate in meetings, completing follow-up as assigned.
• Perform work regularly and predictably.
• Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing work and public spaces.
• Other duties as assigned.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Attend seminars when needed.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• A culinary apprenticeship, an Associate’s Degree from a culinary institution is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must obtain and maintain all licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and Illinois Gaming Commission.
• Must successfully pass background check.
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must be able to work holidays and weekends, as well as flexible shifts.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

• Basic food preparation knowledge and line work experience.
• Must possess a knowledge of sanitation and quality food preparation techniques.

ABILITY TO:

• Be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.
• Use all equipment associated with the position, including, but not limited to, choppers, slicers, mixers and grinders.
• May be exposed to casino related environmental factors including, but not limited to, secondhand smoke and excessive noise.
• The casino is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
• You may be required to work on any of the days the casino is open, including weekends and holidays.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• The Casino environment is hectic, fast paced and often crowded and noisy.
• May be exposed to casino related environmental factors including, but not limited to, secondhand smoke, excessive noise and constant exposure to public.
• Frequent lifting/carrying of weights over 25 pounds, reaching, stooping, squatting and bending.
