Under the supervision of the Executive Chef, this position is responsible for producing high‑quality meals for clients. The role maintains an above‑standard approach to kitchen cleanliness and hygiene, provides a welcoming environment for clients and staff, and assists the Executive Chef in testing and developing specific recipes. Responsibilities include determining the quantities of food necessary for the client population, adjusting recipes as needed, storing perishable foods, minimizing waste, and cleaning and maintaining all kitchen areas including dishwashing.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares nutritious and well‑balanced meals in accordance with the menu plan for all clients
  • Adjusts recipes to match client volumes, avoiding excessive leftovers and unnecessary waste
  • Adheres to specific dietary restrictions and individual needs
  • Checks temperature, taste and appearance of all food before serving
  • Stores perishable foods, uses leftover foods appropriately, and avoids unnecessary waste
  • Delivers finished foods to service areas and follows established procedures and protocols for planning, plating, presentation and service of food
  • Maintains high standards of sanitation in food production and service
  • Adheres to policies and procedures for all aspects of food creation, including scheduled maintenance and cleaning of kitchen equipment such as commercial dishwashers, cooktops and ovens, and ensuring dishes and utensils are clean
  • Assists in rotating supplies to minimize spoilage and waste; promptly communicates inventory shortages and problems with kitchen equipment and appliances; assists the Executive Chef in managing the return of damaged vendor items
  • Follows protocols, procedures and policies necessary to ensure food health and safety; cleans and sanitizes kitchen areas, food storage, dishes, pots, pans and utensils
  • Prepares and submits internal and external reports as directed
  • Participates in quality assurance programs and seeks continuous improvement of the food program within fiscal and departmental parameters
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Education or Equivalent required; post‑secondary culinary arts coursework preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in the culinary field
License(s)/Certification(s)
  • Food Handler Certification
  • SERVSAFE (obtained upon hire)
Mandatory Training
  • IA / IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in applicable states within 90 days of hire
  • IA / IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in applicable states within 90 days of hire
