Job summary

Marina del Rey Hotel in Marina del Rey, CA is seeking a Cook II to bring experience and confidence to our kitchen, preparing and cooking food to recipe, quality, and safety standards. You’ll work independently within established procedures and help ensure every dish meets our high standards.

You will operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers, monitor temps, log food safety records, and maintain a clean, organized station.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of cooking or kitchen experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen procedures.
  • Ability to consistently prepare food according to recipes, portions, and presentation standards.
  • Comfortable operating a variety of commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Solid understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to communicate questions or concerns.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, consistency, and detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Basic math skills for measuring, portioning, and following recipes.
  • Good judgment and ability to follow established procedures.
  • Clear communication with guests, managers, and team members.
  • Dependable, team-oriented, and willing to support the kitchen wherever needed.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, reach, lift, carry, and twist.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. without assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, portioning, weighing, and measuring.
  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, preparation checklists, and presentation standards.
  • Prepare hot and cold food items and ensure proper portions and presentation.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers.
  • Monitor food quality, cooking times, and temperatures throughout preparation.
  • Test food and maintain required food and temperature logs to ensure food safety standards are met.
  • Set up, maintain, and break down your workstation efficiently.
  • Keep kitchen work areas, tools, knives, and equipment clean and sanitized.
  • Use proper protective equipment and follow safe food handling and kitchen practices.
  • Check food and equipment temperatures and address issues as needed.
  • Maintain consistency and quality during busy service periods.
  • Communicate clearly with the kitchen team and management.
  • Anticipate kitchen needs and help keep service moving efficiently.
  • Support other team members and departments as needed.

ABOUT THE PROPERTY

Located directly on the waterfront in Marina del Rey, Marina del Rey Hotel offers a relaxed coastal escape with beautiful harbor views and easy access to Venice Beach and the surrounding Westside. The boutique hotel features 164 guest rooms and suites, many with private balconies or patios, along with a pool, waterfront dining at SALT Restaurant & Bar, Del Rey Lounge, and MOJO Café. With more than 10,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor event space, including a waterfront lawn, Marina del Rey Hotel is a popular setting for weddings, meetings, and social gatherings.

THE ROLE
  • As a Cook II, you’ll bring experience and confidence to the kitchen, preparing and cooking food to recipe, quality, presentation, and food safety standards.
