Essential Functions
  • Prepare and cook on a large-scale basis for individuals and staff at Elgin Mental Health Center.
  • Operate standard cooking equipment such as mixers, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, bake ovens, and steam kettles.
  • Assist in inspecting the kitchen to ensure it is stocked with supplies and food.
  • Maintain sanitation and safety by cleaning equipment and work areas.
  • Serve as backup for the food service line, preparing required food items.
  • Complete mandatory DHS training and participate in educational workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and six months of large-scale food preparation and cooking experience.
  • State employees in the Upward Mobility Program may substitute proficiency tests and training for experience and education requirements.
Conditions of Employment
  • Ability to obtain a Food Service Sanitation Certificate or Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to use office equipment including computers.
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
