We are hiring immediately for part time COOK HELPER positions.

Location: Public Schools of Petoskey – 1500 Hill Street, Petoskey, MI 49770. Note: online applications accepted only.

Schedule: Part time schedule, Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Further details upon interview.

Requirement: Previous food service knowledge; must have a valid driver's license.

Fixed Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour.

Job Summary

Learns to assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items prior to being considered a qualified, skilled cook. Maintains food safety and sanitation standards in the preparation and kitchen areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Read menu to estimate food requirements. Order food from supplier or procure it from storage.
  • Prepare and cook food in accordance with company production records and standardized recipes.
  • Adjust thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles.
  • Help measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Bake, roast, broil and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods under guidance. Add seasoning to food during mixing or cooking under the instruction of others.
  • Test food by tasting, smelling, and piercing to determine that it is cooked.
  • Carve meat, portion food on serving plates, and add gravies, sauces, and garnishes to fill orders as directed.
  • Wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables.
  • Butcher chicken, fish, and shellfish as directed.
  • Bake bread, rolls, cakes, and pastry as course of instruction permits.
  • Maintain work area and equipment. Follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
  • Interact with customers and coworkers in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner.
  • Ensure compliance with company service standards and inventory and cash control procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
