Have a High School diploma or equivalent

Have experience in a volume production kitchen environment (preferred)

Be flexible in your work schedule and be willing to attend/participate in professional development sessions

Be willing to serve on teams

Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds

Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role

Takes direction from the Head Cook in the assigned kitchen

Prepares food for the school utilizing standard operating procedures that have been developed by the Food and Nutrition Department to safely and nutritiously feed the students and staff of the Springfield City School District

Adheres to the cashier standards of operations, reporting and maintenance

Follows the systems that are utilized to maintain compliance with all regulatory agency requirements

Operates all equipment according to the standard operating procedure for safety and efficiency

Serves as a contact at the assigned school for issues that may arise. Reports all issues to the Head Cook in a timely manner

Helps prepare a monthly inventory when needed under the supervision of the Head Cook

Completes daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork as required

Helps to ensure the safe and accurate receiving, storage, rotation, and disposition of all food and supplies

Works as a cashier on a regular basis, or when needed

Who We Are:

The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Cook Helper/Cashier (8) for Service Center for the 2025-26 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state-of-the-art buildings in west-central Ohio. The district values the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of our community. Our academic and extracurricular programs aim to foster social and emotional growth, with initiatives like 1:1 technology and the YouMedia Center, a digital learning lab with activities such as 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography. As a Cook Helper/Cashier, you are required to:

  • Have a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Have experience in a volume production kitchen environment (preferred)

As a Cook Helper/Cashier, you will:

  • Take direction from the Head Cook in the assigned kitchen
  • Prepare food for the school following SOPs developed by the Food and Nutrition Department to ensure safety and nutrition
  • Adhere to cashier standards of operation, reporting, and maintenance
  • Follow systems to maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies
  • Operate all equipment safely and efficiently according to SOPs
  • Serve as a contact at the school for issues, reporting all to the Head Cook promptly
  • Assist in preparing monthly inventory under supervision
  • Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork
  • Ensure safe and proper receiving, storage, and rotation of food and supplies
  • Work as a cashier when needed

What We Offer:

As a contracted employee, this position is for 6 hours per day, 188 days per year, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 2:00 pm or as assigned. Starting salary is $18.18 per hour. Position for the 2025/26 school year begins in August. A $1,500 bonus is awarded in November. All employees receive ongoing professional development. Salary and details are available online in the Springfield Education United Support Staff agreement (SEUSS).
