Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is hiring a part-time Cook at the Healthy Start Recovery Program in Elgin. Provide nutritious meals, maintain sanitation, and interact with clients and staff professionally.

Schedule: Wednesdays and Thursdays 7:00am–3:30pm, Fridays 5:30am–1:30pm. Competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package for eligible staff are offered, plus opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years prior experience in commercial or institutional cooking.
• Background check clearance required.
• State Food Safety Manager License - enrolled in class upon hire required; certificate must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Food Sanitation Certificate, or ability to obtain, required.
• State Food Handlers permit within one (1) week of hire required.
• Experience interacting with clients and staff required.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Following menu plans, prepare a variety of high-quality food in specified quantities using standardized recipes.
• Keep assigned work area clean and follow all sanitation guidelines.
• Perform all duties following safety guidelines and requirements in accordance with regulatory, licensing, accreditation, and agency standards.
• Maintain cleanliness standards in the cooler, freezer, and overall kitchen areas.
• Maintain inventory of food, equipment, and supplies in the kitchen area.
• Receive, restock, and organize inventory.
• Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations with dignity and fairness.
