Job description

Description of Position

The Cook is responsible for the preparation and production of all food served to residents and guests. Assists with menu preparation & ensuring food quality and freshness. Provides meal quality and consistency by following designated recipes and production systems. Prepares food in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, the facility’s established policies and procedures, and as maybe directed by their supervisor to ensure that quality food service is provided at all times.

Responsibilities of the Cook

• Preparation of assigned meal and food in accordance with sanitary regulations and departmental policies and procedures.


• Maintenance of all appropriate culinary & department documentation of temperature charts and similar records according to established protocols


• Notification to Chef/ Culinary Director of inventory requirements in a timely fashion


• Proper personal appearance and hygiene according to established procedures


• Reporting of all hazardous conditions or equipment


• Maintains proper personal appearance and hygiene according to established Providence Senior Living standards.


• Assists in cleaning and organizing kitchen, food storage, dish room & other assigned F&A areas.


• Ensures a first-in, first-out food rotation system and verifies all food products are properly dated and organized for quality assurance.


• Keeps cooking stations stocked as directed, especially before and during prime operation hours


• Adherence to all sanitation, food handling protocols, safety policies & procedures, and regulatory authorities as required.


• Follows and communicates company policies and procedures


• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements of the Position

• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.


• Have a positive level two background screening


• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.


• Ability to push, pull, and lift 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds.


• Ability to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner and to be able to carefully follow writing and oral instructions given in the English language.


• Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, vendors and the public.


• Abide by all company policies and procedures.


• Provide documentation stating that you are clear from communicable diseases including tuberculosis upon hire and annually.
