GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The cook assists with preparing menus, inventory control, and maintains a clean or organized safe kitchen environment. This position is responsible for preparing the food in an appetizing and appealing manner.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Identify and report food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus
- Assist in the receiving, rotation and storage of products
- Prepare menus and cook food in accordance with nutritional guidelines, regulations, an residents’ individual prescribed diets and food preference
- Assist in fostering residents’ independence with eating by providing adaptive equipment when needed
- Prepare food and coordinate food services for special community events when requested
- Notify Executive Chef of any malfunctioning kitchen equipment or appliances
- Ensure proper storage and handling of food in accordance with infection control standards
- Must possess a passion to work with and around senior citizens
- Attends required community meetings
- Is prompt and able to perform the required duties of the position on a regular predictable basis
- All associates are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all community residents
- Must be able to work weekends
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Able to read, write, speak and understand the English language, and able to communicate effectively.
- Certified in food preparation training preferred
- Knowledge of state food handling and kitchen regulations
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and fire and safety procedures
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a high school education
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in cooking for large groups a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Sit up to eight hours of the work day
- Stand/walk up to two hours a day
- Frequent support up to 30 pounds
- Frequent lift/carry up to 50 pounds
- Frequent kneel, bend and reach
- Secure proper assistance for transferring and lifting of residents as needed
- Subject to infectious disease, substances, odors, etc. throughout the work day
