Weekend Rotation: every other weekend

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY: The Cook prepares food in large quantities for Tabitha's communities, Meals on Wheels, and catering. Responsibilities include training new cooks, recipe development, and managing leftovers. The role supports Tabitha's LIVE2Care Culture and Core Values, emphasizing dignity, respect, independence, and safety of Seniors/clients, through collaboration with colleagues and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare food following federal, state, and corporate standards for quality and safety.
  • Follow recipes and guidelines to cook and serve various food items.
  • Operate kitchen equipment to prepare ingredients and dishes.
  • Provide personalized service during guest interactions.
  • Estimate food requirements, monitor production, and record keeping for inventory and planning.
  • Assist with receiving and stocking supplies.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment regularly.
  • Use critical thinking to work independently and collaborate with nursing staff.

Qualifications

Communication: Ability to accurately measure ingredients, follow instructions, and communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal. Recognize non-verbal cues and respond calmly to emergencies and workload changes.

Physical Requirements: Ability to access the work area, perform duties requiring strength and stamina, including lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing for long periods, and maneuvering equipment and supplies. Must pass a physical exam demonstrating strength and agility.

Equipment Usage: Proficiency with kitchen equipment such as ovens, mixers, food processors, refrigerators, and computers.

Age: Minimum 18 years old.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: At least two years in quantity food production, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Credentials: Food Handler Permit required at Lancaster County campuses; must meet vaccination requirements.
