Job description

Location: Spring Arbor College

+ We are hiring immediately for full-time and part-time COOK positions.

+ Address: Spring Arbor College - 106 East Main Street, Spring Arbor, MI 49283. Note: online applications accepted only.

+ Schedule: Full-time and part-time; days and hours may vary. Rotating weekends required. More details upon interview.

+ Requirement: Prior commercial cooking experience is required.

+ Pay Range: $15.50 to $17.00 per hour.

Job Summary

Summary: Prepares food according to federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations with established policies and procedures. Ensures quality food service at all times. Essential duties include:

  • Preparing high-quality food items according to standardized recipes to meet production, delivery, and service schedules.
  • Serving meals or preparing for delivery by using correct portioning, ensuring food is at the correct temperature, attractive, and tasty. Tastes all prepared food items.
  • Using established ticket collection procedures during service. Responsible for records from the area worked during service periods.
  • Cleaning the kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Storing or discarding excess food per safe food-handling procedures.
  • Keeping refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat. Ensuring food and supply items are stored per standards.
  • Operating and maintaining kitchen equipment as instructed.
  • Assisting in production planning, record keeping, and reporting as required.
  • Assisting in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required.
  • Reporting needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Attending in-service and safety meetings.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers.
  • Performing job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Ensuring proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of serving temperatures; following HACCP standards.
  • Personal commitment to safety and that of others.
  • Abiding by all company policies and procedures, including the use of gloves when handling knives or cleaning slicers, and proper protective gear when handling hot pans.
