Essential Job Functions

  1. Follow standardized recipes, portioning, menu extensions, and presentation standards.
  2. Complete and utilize daily production worksheets and waste logs.
  3. Taste completed meals to ensure quality.
  4. Monitor food temperatures during preparation and service to meet established standards.
  5. In the absence of the Director of Culinary, inspect food products and supplies upon delivery.
  6. Supervise and assist with storage of supplies and food.
  7. Report needs for food, supplies, or equipment, and notify of equipment breakdowns or unsafe conditions.
  8. Comply with health and sanitation regulations, evidenced through audits.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of 1 year cooking experience, including batch cooking, family-style restaurants, or short order.
  2. Food service experience in a healthcare dietary setting is preferred but not required.
  3. Knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioning.
  4. Ability to read and follow recipes, diet orders, and work instructions.
  5. Willingness to work flexible hours, including during emergencies.
  6. Patience and tolerance towards staff, residents, and families.

Education Requirements

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  3. Preference for those with education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets.

Physical Demands

The Cook must stand and walk intermittently, reach, stoop, bend, lift, carry, and manipulate food, supplies, and equipment. Must be able to work with chemicals and lift/carry 50-75 pounds.

Additional Information

  • Location: Fahrney Keedy Senior Living Community
  • Schedule: Prep Cook 3 days/week, Relief Cook 2 days/week
  • Shift times vary (6 am - 2:30 pm, 11:30 am - 8 pm), weekend availability required
  • Salary: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
