Job Title: Cook
  • We are hiring immediately for a full-time Cook position.
  • Location: Rutgers UBHC - 671 Hoes Lane West, Piscataway, NJ 08854. Note: online applications accepted only.
  • Schedule: Full-time; Monday through Friday, including rotating weekends. 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. More details upon interview.
  • Requirement: Prior culinary experience preferred.
  • Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour.

Job Summary

Summary: Prepare food according to federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations, ensuring quality food service at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery, and service schedules.
  2. Serve meals or prepare for delivery, ensuring correct portioning, temperature, attractiveness, and taste. Taste all prepared food items.
  3. Use established ticket collection procedures during service. Maintain records from the area worked during service periods.
  4. Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen after preparation and serving, store or discard excess food following safe food-handling procedures.
  5. Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and organized. Ensure proper storage of food and supplies.
  6. Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed.
  7. Assist in production planning, record keeping, and reporting as required.
  8. Assist in ordering and receiving food and supplies.
  9. Report maintenance needs, faulty equipment, or accidents immediately to the supervisor.
  10. Attend in-service and safety meetings.
  11. Maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers.
  12. Perform job safely, maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
  14. Ensure proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of serving temperatures; follow HACCP standards.
  15. Commit to personal and team safety.
  16. Follow all company policies and procedures, including safety protocols such as using gloves when handling knives, oven mitts for hot pans, slip-resistant shoes, and proper lifting techniques.
