Location: 236 Commons Way, Williamsburg VA 23185

Position: Cook

Under the direction of designated management and supervisors, the Cook will prepare, present, store, and dispatch all food products, including Dining Room, Bistro (where located), marketing and catering events, and resident tray service where required. Responsibilities include adhering to menu specifications within time limits set by the Dining Services Director, maintaining standards of Commonwealth Senior Living, and complying with health and safety regulations by following sanitary and safe food handling guidelines.

Position Details:

Full-Time, various shifts; every other weekend required.

Job Duties:
  • Ensure all menu items are prepared and served according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure presentation standards are met for all menu items.
  • Prepare meals based on menus, nutritional programs, and individual plans.
  • Maintain quality in taste, presentation, and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation, including cleaning and proper storage.
  • Work efficiently and at a consistent pace.
  • Prepare meals timely and accurately according to needs.
  • Meet residents' dietary requirements.
  • Use kitchen equipment properly during food preparation.
  • Stay productive and prepare for future needs.
  • Be flexible and volunteer for open shifts as needed.
  • Follow reporting procedures for accidents and incidents.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations including infection control and hazardous materials handling.
  • Order and receive supplies timely to maintain inventory.
  • Assist with training new employees.
  • Serve food in proper portions and temperatures.
  • Report policy infractions.
  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year of cooking experience.
  • Experience in the retirement home industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of food trends, sanitation, and cost controls.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Flexible, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Team player.
  • Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and email.
  • Attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
