Job summary

Strong Hope Behavioral Health in Salt Lake City is seeking a dynamic Cook for our Dietary Department to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for patients and staff according to the approved menus and production sheets.

You'll follow safety and sanitation guidelines, assist Dietician with modified diets, and help maintain a clean, orderly kitchen and dining area while providing friendly, patient-focused service to the hospital community.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent preferred.
• At least three (3) years experience in quantity cooking preferred. Basic knowledge of modified diets; sanitation training; experience with industrial kitchen equipment; prior hospital kitchen experience helpful.

Responsibilities

• Cook meals and beverages according to menu cycle and daily production sheet.
• Prepare meals for modified diets, consulting with Dietician as required.
• Complete meals in a timely manner as posted with attention to attractive presentation.
• Follow posted cleaning schedule; maintain a clean work area and dining room at all times.
• Document refrigeration and dish machine temperatures; ensure proper sanitation.
• Maintain walk-in freezer and storerooms; date and label all food items.
• Adhere to appropriate portion control and dispose of leftovers safely.
• Interact with patients in the serving line and assist with choosing balanced meals.
• Report equipment malfunctions and secure the kitchen at day end.

The Cook is responsible for the cooking, preparation and service of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals for patients and facility staff according to the approved menu cycle and production sheets.

1. Open the kitchen and ensure organization of daily events
2. Cook meals, follow menus and recipes as provided by the Dietary Manager and Dietician.
3. Prepare meals and beverages according to menu cycle and daily production sheet, providing attention to attractive and tasteful meals.
4. Accurately prepare food for modified diets, consulting with Dietician as required.
5. Complete and prepare meals in a timely manner as prescribed by posted meal times.
6. Follow posted cleaning schedule and ensure a clean work area and dining room at all times.
7. Document refrigeration and dish machine temperatures according to posted schedules.
8. Adhere to standards for food temperatures during cooking, serving and storage of leftovers.
9. Maintain walk-in freezer and storerooms in an orderly fashion, and properly date and label all food items.
10. Adhere to appropriate portion control and avoid over production.
11. Comply with established guidelines for sanitation and safety.
12. Interact with patients in the serving line, offering assistance in the selection of a nutritionally balanced meal.
13. Support and encourage harmonious working relationships within the department, as well as with all employees in the facility.
14. Report any equipment malfunction immediately to the Dietary Manager.
15. Wash dishes and maintaining dish room in a clean and orderly fashion.
16. Responsible for turning off all equipment, inspecting the kitchen for cleanliness and locking the department at the end of the day.
