Job summary

The Cypress of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC is seeking a hospitality-focused temporary Cook to join our culinary team. This role covers full-scope, hands-on production cooking in our Culinary Services Department with shifts across mornings and early evenings.

The temporary assignment is expected to last 6–8 weeks, with potential to move to a permanent position based on performance. Prior kitchen experience in hotel, restaurant, or senior living is preferred, along with ServSafe certification.

Qualifications

• Three years’ cook experience in hotel/restaurant/club or similar institution.
• Experience working in hospital or senior living is preferred.
• Ability to read recipes, measurements and follow standards.
• Must be able to work flexible shifts including weekends.
• SERVSafe certification preferred.
• English communication is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate all kitchen stations as assigned.
• Run station efficiently per specs and stock as needed.
• Maintain food quality and presentation.
• Prepare soups, stocks, sauces, and various items per recipes.
• Coordinate meal production with serving hours.
• Ensure proper planning of supplies for daily menus.

Schedule: Varies, must be flexible to work the following shifts:

• Monday - Saturday: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm & 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm
• Sundays: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
• Must be able to work weekends

Pay: $20.00 - $22.51 per hour

Position Summary

The Cypress of Charlotte is recruiting for a hospitality focused temporary Cook to join our team! This position is responsible for full-scope, hands on production cooking in the Culinary Services Department. The temporary assignment is anticipated to last approximately 6-8 weeks and has the possibility to move to a permanent position based on performance and hiring demands.

Primary Responsibilities

• Ability to work all stations in the kitchen.
• Efficiently runs assigned station during the shift, follow all specs, and stock food as needed.
• Maintains the quality of food and plate presentation.
• Prepares all soups, stocks, sauces; boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes.
• Prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes.
• Prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders. Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved.
• Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and seeing that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.

Qualifications

• SERVSafe Certification preferred.
• Experience in hospital or senior living preferred.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions.
• A minimum of three years’ experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution.
• Ability to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards.
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance. Some knowledge of nutrition and diet.
• Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
