Job summary

The Cypress of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC is seeking a hospitality-focused temporary Cook to join our team. This position covers all kitchen stations, producing high-quality soups, sauces, roasts, and plated dishes per standardized recipes. Assignment is 6–8 weeks with potential for permanence based on performance.

Shifts vary: 7:00 am–3:00 pm, 12:30 pm–9:00 pm, weekends and Sundays. Competitive hourly pay and a comprehensive benefits package are offered to support a rewarding work environment.

Qualifications

• SERVSafe Certification preferred.
• Experience in hospital or senior living preferred.
• Ability to perform arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions.
• A minimum of three years’ experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution.
• Ability to plan and organize work, interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards.
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Work all stations in the kitchen.
• Run assigned station during the shift, follow specs, and stock food as needed.
• Maintain the quality of food and plate presentation.
• Prepare soups, stocks, sauces; braise and roast per recipes.
• Prepare sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per recipes.

• Monday - Saturday: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm & 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm
• Sundays: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm

Pay: $20.00 - $22.51 per hour

Position Summary:

The Cypress of Charlotte is recruiting for a hospitality focused temporary Cook to join our team! This position is responsible for full-scope, hands on production cooking in the Culinary Services Department. The temporary assignment is anticipated to last approximately 6-8 weeks and has the possibility to move to a permanent position based on performance and hiring demands.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Ability to work all stations in the kitchen.
• Efficiently runs assigned station during the shift, follow all specs, and stock food as needed.
• Maintains the quality of food and plate presentation.
• Prepares all soups, stocks, sauces; boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes.
• Prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes.
• Prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders. Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved.
• Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and seeing that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.

Qualifications:

• Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions.
• A minimum of three years’ experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution.
• Ability to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards.
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance. Some knowledge of nutrition and diet.
• Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and writteninstructions in English.
