Job description

Description

Maintain kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean, and sanitary manner. Prepare tasteful meals and cook a variety of foods in large quantities, following prepared menus and portion control guides. Prepare special diets accurately and record food temperatures for meals. Prepare pureed foods and work cooperatively with personnel in all departments. Maintain quaternary solution in sanitizer buckets, assist with serving meals, and clean cooking areas and serving carts. Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nurses. Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff. Make food presentation appealing to residents, cooperate with team members, supervise in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor, and ensure cleaning schedules are followed.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility.
Skills and Certifications
  • Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
  • Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions.
  • Mathematical skills applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Problem-solving and interpretative skills for various instructions.
  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification.
Physical Demands

Frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, smelling, and tasting. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good vision for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Usually low to moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities. Management may reassign duties as needed.
