Job Summary

The Food Coordinator is primarily responsible for preparing and serving meals for Senior Dining/Meals on Wheels. May also be responsible for preparing meals for other entities such as the Summer Food Service Program, an outside daycare or Adult Daycare Program, catered meals or events, and other meals as designated. The Food Coordinator is responsible for preparing food for the site as well as the satellite site(s) and other contracted programs. Meals are transported in a manner so that temperatures (hot or cold) are retained. Responsibilities also include ordering food and supplies as well as kitchen management. The Food Coordinator has responsibility for proper food handling, preparation and storage methods. She/he must operate within the budget and other program guidelines.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and directs preparation of meal: provides instructions to kitchen staff and volunteers to assure quality menu preparation that meets menu requirements & program standards & served on a timely basis to congregate diners and Meals on Wheels diners.
  • Assures meal preparation follows MN Department of Health & OSHA requirements: identify hazards in the work & properly resolve/minimize; train staff to compliance; conduct regular in-house inspections; and monitor cleaning schedule completion.
  • Prepares wholesome food for meals according to program and menu directives/guidelines.
  • Orders, stores and records food purchases and donations: Orders food and supplies weekly utilizing vendor order guide; maintains inventory of food items; stores all food according to MN Food Code; performs inspections of equipment.
  • Communication with Site Councils & internal staff: maintain regular contact with Site Supervisor regarding concerns/issues; participate in Site Council meetings.
  • Implements agency policies and procedures & continues knowledge in role of the Older Americans Act and the MN Board on Aging.

Job Requirements

Education/Training: High School Diploma or Equivalent; Current State of Minnesota Certified Food Manager (or the ability to become certified within 3 months); A current driver's license; Access to an insured vehicle.

Job Related Experience: One year of quantity cooking. Knowledge of food service equipment operation is helpful.
